If you browse to the 'C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios' folder and rename the 'Baldur's Gate 3' subfolder. The easiest way to get there would be to copy the following line into the location bar in Explorer and hit Enter: %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios
This folder contains the saved games, configuration files and a level cache folder. Deleting or renaming it will get the game to recreate it on startup.
This is the only thing that fixed it for me.
HUGE MASSIVE THANK YOU MY FRIEND. I was in house of hope- around 80 hours into my save, when my game crashed and ate my save. and this advice saved it. My gratitude to you <3
Basically I turned off steam cloud saves in the settings of my account, but obviously that doesn't delete the already (most likely corrupted) file.
To fix this, I went to the view steam cloud option on my web browser and went into the baldur's gate 3 file on their server.
I found the cloud save there, copied the honor mode.lsv file from there, deleted the one on my computer which our friend reaper told us how to get to, and then replaced it with the steam cloud backup version in the same folder.
Then i turned back on cloud sync, restarted pc for good measure, and viola it was back.,
to retrieve the latest honour save file. When I accessed my story saves, something I noticed was the honour save .Webp file would NORMALLY show a picture of where I had saved, but for my (presumably) corrupted save it didn't. When I uploaded the cloud save that I downloaded from the above link, I booted up bg3 and no luck... closed it, went into the story files again, and the .Webp image was back! I booted up bg3 again (with seemingly no change from the previous boot) and it worked this second time. Not sure why it took starting it up multiple times, but it eventually worked, and I didn't lose the progress. Thank you both
Hey so after I start the tutorial no new folder is being added, I went past the first imp fight and there's no save folder for it either. I have the save files from my lost save, it's just HonourMode.lsv and HonourMode.WebP (the .webp is a picture).
holy thank you dude, this worked 100%
There is an alternative if not even that works.
1) Disable Steam Cloud for Bg3 ;
2) MANUALLY download your save file from Steam Cloud. Login from your browser to access files. It will have a weird long name, it's ok ;
store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage
3) Open your savefile folder in the C/Users/(username)/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public/SavedGames/Story/(a bunch of numbers, HonourMode at the end). You may need to activate "show hidden files" to reach this folder ;
4) Rename your weird-named DOWNLOADED save file into HonourMode.lsv and replace the one in the folder ;
5) Go to your STEAM folder Steam/userdata/108249446/1086940/remote/_SAVE_Public/Savegames/Story/(Again a bunch of numbers, HonourMode at the end)
I either deleted or replaced the savefile with the downloaded one here, one of the two. I believe I deleted it ;
6) Launch the game, save appeares back ;
7) Load the save, and SAVE AGAIN. For me, there were no issues at all, no corruption or achievement cancel ;
8) Turn the Steam Cloud for Bg3 back, it will say error for half a minute, then it will say that there's a mismatch, and give an option, which files to use to synchronize. Choose to upload from your PC, but only AFTER you saved again in the game ;
You're welcome
I love you thank you so much
This helped me I typed %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios on search bar on pc it brought up my files and changed 'Baldur's Gate 3' to 'Baldur's Gate 4' started the game up again in steam it prompted me to update brightness and my save file was back and no longer showing custom/ and now loadable
