Ethel vs Volo (Eye)

So i went to Auntie Ethel for help with the parasite, taking her deal as i was told that if she takes the right eye which is the eye which Volo takes and replaces, but when i finally freed Volo, all dialogue options went to "I only have one good eye left" which sent his goofy ass running off. Can someone please explain why i can't use this loop hole

You could've had Volo stick someone else's eye if you wanted both.

Ethel asks you which eye you want to take.

Both Volo and Ethel will refuse to take the eye of someone who has already lost one, including Wyll with his sending stone eye. You can never have two artificial eyes in BG3, you can, however, have one person get the Hag Eye and another the Ersatz Eye.
