Honour mode has anti cheat?
It seems so. I was curious and tested some stuff.

Everybody that plays on PC knows that: You just copy the save file and put it somewhere else. If you die, you copy the save file back in and start where you left off. But it seems, that's not the case in this game.

Even if you copy the save file back in, it changes to custom mode. I had the steam cloud deactivated, played in offline mode and tested it several times, clicking on end or proceed with custom mode. But always when you died and copy the savefile back in, you are in custom mode. Not dying and copy the file out and in doesn't change the difficulty.

If you put the file on a usb stick, disconnect it from the pc, die, copy it from the stick back in the folder, you are set to custom mode.

ALT + TAB and killing the process won't work either.

Renaming your copied file to a different hash and puting it in the folder after you die will still set you to custom mode.

So the game somehow prevents you from doing this. I am curious how the devs did that.

Not really anti cheat just saves work differently

Why even go through all this trouble if you wanna cheese it anyway? There’s a literal golden die enabling mod on nexus. It’s a single player game, there’s no mount or mythic titles to show off. If you want to scam yourself then just go the easiest way.

“I want to beat myself it but also undo bad moves” is not how this works.

The discussion is not about "cheese". It is about what kind of anticheat might there be,

Yeah, but the discussion is pointless and implies people are looking for cheats. It’s like discussing the security measures of a bank vault. What’s the point?

There’s a mod to cheat in the die, just be done with it.

If you truly want to prevent this from happening

-- Start the game, load your save
-- Revoke BG3's permissions to change your system data (hard drive for instance)
-- Play the game. If you die and it will try to write anything anywhere, you'll get the popup from Windows "do you want this application to modify bla-bla-bla", so click "no"
-- Before you want to save your progress, grant those permissions again
-- After you've done saving, revoke the permissions

It's fiddly and I honestly don't think it's worth it. However the fact they do some "secret magic" on your PC and stash some files somewhere is .. suspicious. It's never a good idea to do this.

How do you do that?

Why does it matter "how"? Check some articles on how to do it for your version of Windows (assuming you're on Windows).

I thought the thread was about discussing the means through which devs achieve it? What I wrote doesn't answer that. It simply does "let's deny anything and everything the application does so that it has no chance of changing the state of my local data carrier".

Honour mode should also perform an autosave everytime a character dies.

Yeah people are trying to find a way to by pass the auto saving rather thhen messing with files that are already archived and such, honor mode seems to keep the save tied to ready to rewrite data at all times unless their is a hard crash, its pretty much a live file when playing the mode

Cheating is wrong. Don't you feel bad? Is scamming your way to some gold dice a good trade? What's the point?
cHaMp Feb 9, 2024 @ 6:20pm
There is no anti-cheat just you have to backup the entire PlayerProfiles folder and not just the savegame inside of it as one of the config type files flags your honor mode as custom on party wipe without updating the save file itself.

Has been confirmed to work, so has moving file back into folder. Go check out Nexus, they have honor mode save files you can download and put in your save file folder, load up start epilogue. Which in turn has made it where someone saying they have beat Honor mode not that big a deal.
