Discovering the location of the Gondian hostages in act 3.
I just snuck into the Foundry and talked to the Gondian gnome head guy who tells me about the Gondian hostages and tells me to sneak further into the foundry to discover where they are.

Whenever I try to sneak there, I get instantly spotted because stealth in this game is actually realistic. So far, so good.

But looking around inside the foundry as far as I can both with and without being seen, I can't see any obvious clues to discovering where they are.

Now, I've already been to the submarine pit, so I have a pretty good idea of where the hostages are. But how exactly are you supposed to discover their location without cheating? And is it even possible to sneak through the foundry without invisibility spells?

I think one of the guards in the lower levels has something you can steal that reveals the location...I think when i did this i pickpockted using an invisiblity potion.

So, are you actually supposed to fight them all? Because usually, the only time you get to look through an enemy's pockets is when they're dead. Seems like that would break the quest as all the Gondians would be dead as well.

There are multiple ways into the foundry. As for not "Cheating" to figure out where the hostages are, if you go to the beach by "The Guilds" hideout, Sahuagin attack and one of them is carrying a "Smelly Bag" that has a note from one of the hostages inside.

That's pretty cool, I did that sahuagin encounter as well. Don't recall the note, though.

There is a quest in the Water Queens House next to the foundry. I found following that quest to be easier to find the hostages than actually following the Gondian quest

I think you can also find some notes in the underground section of the foundry. Try sneaking in with just one character with invisibility

Would that update the quest satisfactorily? It kinda feels like cheating going to the prison with metaknowledge.

There are multiple ways to end up at the submarine and you can end up not knowing about the other prisoners when you attempt a rescue.

Yeah, I personally just kinda blundered into the sub bay while exploring the sewers. I liked how I could say "Oh, I think I know that metal monster!" when I encountered the water goddess worshipers several hours later.

Solved it - apparently, there is a very visible ledger about 5 feet from the entrance to the foundry stating very clearly OH BOY, I SURE LOVE HAVING HOSTAGES IN OUR UNDERWATER FORTRESS ONLY REACHABLE BY SUBMARINE.

Now that's subtle quest design, Larian.
