So, IMO, hold monster is definitely the better choice.
Telekinesis is more situational but also more fun if you use it creatively and doesn’t need concentration.
It’s all depends on your personal strategy and how you build your team
throwing people left and right :D
So Hold Person/Hold Monster have definitely something going for them. Though Telekinses in BG3 specifically has the power of throwing enemies in chasms etc, thus taking them out entirely, even if they are at full health, so telekinesis (situational) is extremely op, when you can use it that way.
The biggest downside is that you loose the loot, which is a no-go for a loot goblin like me. :P
In short: it depends on your personal playstyle, both can be very powerful, though in terms of raw power of taking out enemies completely ou of the fight, telekinesis wins by a long shot.
Situational. Best course of action is both!
I suppose I could choose both. Though I was wanting to use cone of cold in combination with create water on my lightning sorc. Mainly for the few enemies that are immune to lightning damage.
I have both Lae'zel and Karlach on my team, and Lae'zel is a throwing fighter. That's multiple crit instances per throw.
Alright, I guess I'll go with Hold Monster then.
Haven't used the throwing setup in a good while now.
You could make it a bonus action by using Mind Sanctuary first.
