Moonrise Towers Prison cells are empty... WTF?

So, apparently, I read somewhere that I needed to go to Moonrise towers BEFORE completing the Gauntlet of Shar... And the tieflings and gnomes are all dead... Nice. Well... ALl I have to do is polymorph Balthazar into a sheep and battle all the reception committee at Moonrise Towers... AGAIN... blargh... :P

Besides role play (I´d really like to free those chaps...). Is it any other significant reason to go that far back in terms of game saves? It's not as much the battles but the time consuming and boring loot recovery of ALL those crates and corpses in Moonrise first level... arrghhhh...
So, saving the tieflings and gnomes has any other benefit besides RP?

Alfira gives you a really solid cloak for Charisma based characters. Wulbren unlocks a quest in act 3 and a very good merchant.

There is achievement to save all the tieflings which I recommend doing because if you plan on doing more runs, you should probably plas as the dark urge which offers much more interesting playthrough but as far as I know is not able to get that specific achievement.

You can if you knock a certain someone unconcious before the scene.
