Is it impossible to remove mods from saves now?
As of patch 5, the game will simply refuse to even try to load a save when a mod from the save is missing.

Is there any way to uninstall mods from saves at this point?

There never was a way to uninstall mods from savegames if they affected your savegame. There is only the option to attempt a forced load savegame while ignoring the missing mods. That was it.

bg3 mm settings preferences, advanced enable mod developer mode, add -continueGame save settings and try to load saves. The missing mods ui pop up is broken

The only way to 'clean' a save of any or all Mods :

* Load the fully Modded save file into BG3
* Disable the Mods to be removed
* Create a new set of Save points in BG3
* Exit BG3
* Delete all the removed Mods from the system
* Restart BG3 and see if it now loads ok.

If you cannot even do step one, then your saves are pretty much toast as far as the current BG3 version goes. The only hope you have is for the original Mod authors to update their Mods to work with the current version of the game.

Strawberry's method above may work, but the results are not guaranteed and the conflicts may corrupt any new Saves beyond any hope of repair. No way to know for sure.

Best of Luck

Just don't try to remove game editing files and it'll be fine. Like spell mods that add new spells, overwrite spells like tutorial chest hide version and ovbiously, approval mods, level up unlock etc. That will 100% break your saves anyways specially if the mod page says don't remove mid playthrough. If game editing mods are not updated, best to just simply remove and play a new save

There are known workarounds for this issue.

This one:

If this doesn't work you can create dummy mod files to trick the game into thinking that all mods are present: https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/187qrnn/no_new_epilogue_for_me/kbin4vv/

This was never an option. It just depends on the mod and what it changes. You can't "remove a mod from a save file" because there's no flag saying "this is mod, remove". Mods change data. If a mod changes data in such a way that the game can't load it without the mod, you crash if you remove it.

Some games have systems in place for this. Factorio, for instance, will check for orphaned items and simply remove them from the world on load, but Baldur's Gate has no such system. Even if it ever did have official mod support, that's unlikely to be part of it.

Always make a backup before modding
removing mods from saves mid-game is usually always a bad idea in nearly any game

When you say "disable," do you mean remove them from mod manager and export the order while the game is running? How do I know if the save doesn't include mods?

If you are using BG3MM. All mods should be put to "inactive" group.

So, I tried this, even including reinstalling BG3, and it did not work. Putting mods on the "inactive" list while the game is running does not remove them from my save file.

How do I save a game without mods?
