honour mode and its difficulty
i was excited to see that bg3 was gonna get a harder difficulty as i found tactician to be a bit to easy and honour mode sounded good from everything that ive read.
just booted up the game and saw this dreaded line: if your entire party is defeated your run is over.
i have NEVER been one to enjoy permadeath, i think its a dumb way of making a game more difficult, the game says you can continue in a custom run but i dont see the options to turn on legendary actions for bosses in custom which is what i looked forward to the most.
will the run be downgraded to tactician if i lose or will i still have a harder game but without the gold dice reward at the end?

It's a common device in role-play gaming. Also, it's deletion upon party wipe - not an individual death. That doesn't sound THAT bad.

im suprised they did not do this to begin with. the only other game i can remember that still has permadeath as a choice and is still accepted is fire emblem.
there are mods to do this exact thing but since i havent tried it i dont know if its buggy or not

Difficulty doesn't seem to be much harder than tactician other than extra mechanics for major bosses so for those you can prepare elixirs and stuff. Spider Matriarch is pretty annoying for example if you go there before lvl 5.

I approve for honor being added in custom . I had zero issues with Honor but don’t like to have to replay from start, I want to at least have a save from start of act 2 and 3 to try new builds to solo the boss encounters.

I already have a great build in mind to solo Raphael on Honor mode but as I killed him now I have to start all over to get back to him and test it.

and the fact that a random crit from an enemy can force you to restart a 20 hour playthrough doesent make it better.
dont get me wrong i love difficulty in games. i played every difficulty mod in DOS2 and had a blast but forcing me to restart after 30 hours because a big robot crit me or because this 8 STR wizard got the luckiest roll of their life and pushed me of the edge is gonna make me not play it without mods.
already found a mod that adds the honour mode stuff to every difficulty as good as it could but idk if i should hold of and pray for an "official" version of that mod or if i should just play modded

This is incorrect, they need to kill your entire party to restart your game and you can easily just have shadowhearth always cast Sanctuary on herself and only heal and revive downed characters and she can never die this way.

I had zero issues even without that but if you want to have peace of mind it’s the easiest thing . Have her always cast bless on your characters and sanctuary on herself and have stay back and just toss heals.

I have yet to get to a point where i randomly got rekt, the closest call I had was lvl 3 with owlbears but as soon as i killed one of them it was cake- owlbear downs a character, Shadowheart gets him up, then the other 2 keeps hitting it. Then next turn it downs the character again, shadowheart lifts him up the other 2 keeps hitting it..

Really not that hard but a save game would let me try different builds as well as soloing it.

Too risky to solo on Honor as one bad roll can screw me over lol. But will def try to solo it soon anyways
I like to disable enemy crits in rpg's - but then compensate by increasing their base damage. They can still be dangerous this way, but less spikey, more predictable. A crit can down you out of nowhere, while slightly higher base damage just means you have to be more careful.

I don't see how you can even achieve a total party kill without trying for it

I like it.

I played with a group who wanted to have no reloading if something bad happened, but would reload if the bad thing was us all dying, so anyone else could die to our mistakes except us, which I felt was a total cop out.

Restart on wipe adds some real teeth to the difficulty, but I'm pretty sure you can just keep one person at the back and flee and then have withers revive your dead back in camp.

I mean it's not a forced mode, you have to specifically pick it and know what it entails before you decide to start.

I didn't think I would like hardcore mode as much. I tend to save scum my choices until I get the result I want, making all runs feel samey, with honor mode I am seeing outcomes I never thought existed and it's amazing to see all the different dialog I have been missing lol. I think it should be added as an option to all difficulties.

The only thing you get for not dying on Honor mode is a set of dice. If you die you can continue the run with all the legendary actions you just don't get the achievement/dice.

It's also really tough to full wipe in this game unless you really mess up. You can almost always win the fight despite a character or two going down or pop an invis potion and retreat if absolutely necessary. Then you just go back to camp and res everybody with Withers.

so if i can continue the game just fine without getting the achievement then why isnt it an option in custom?
from what the game told me if i got wiped i would continue in custom but i assumed i would be able to change around things as i would have been able to as if i selected custom. and since there is no options for honour mode changes in custom i wanted to make sure before committing any time to it

I was going to say, most fights can still be won with just three (or less) party members, so as long as someone is left at camp, you can't really 'die' unless you self-enforce a 'no res' rule and leave all dead party members permanently dead. This then forces you to keep as many companions (and Hirelings, I guess) around as backup pinch hitters, just in case.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one that is feeling like tactician is easy. Tactician in DOS2 was perfection
