You need a 9 to hit. Your caster probably has 16 in their spell casting attribute, so +3 from that, and between level 1 and 4 you get +2 from the proficiency bonus (+3 from 5-8, +4 for 9+), that's at least a +5, so you need to roll a 4 at the lowest. Bless would add another 1d4 to this spell attack roll, if you wanted to make sure. Rolling a 1 always fails, though.
It has 11 HP and ignores 8 damage from each hit, so we need to do at least 19 damage to kill it in one hit. It's vulnerable to thunder damage so our damage is doubled, which means we need to roll at least a 10 for damage to kill it in one hit.
A level 1 Chromatic Orb does 3d8 thunder damage. One d8 rolls 4.5 damage on average, so three add up to 13.5.
A level 2 Chromatic Orb does 4d8 thunder damage, which adds up to 18 damage on average.
- The game might bug out a few times because they are technically flying but you can throw them into chasms or as was the case in Grymforge, into the bowels of mount magma. They are not it seems, resistant to the grabby touch nor out of bounds instantaneous death.
Gonna try this next time. xD
It worked, I pushed it into the chasm right next to the drow chick, can't think of the name.
That's amazing, always learn something new about this game.
I suggest keeping some Chromatic Orb and/or Shatter scrolls in your inventory to deal with these things.
