It's an option for roleplay, just choose the platonic options and you'll have plenty of just-friends.
It may have been added later, but there's definitely an "imagine being super best friends enjoying a feast" option or something like that and it isn't romantic at all and the scene ends completely platonically.

That was the case the last time I saw it, and I don't think patches have changed it.
IRL, people accidentally cross the friendzone by mistake too, just saying. People handle it a variety of ways. Killing the person seems an over-reaction, maybe fine in a video game, hope you don't take that approach IRL.
