I wish I could skip the shadow cursed lands.
I hate looking at it, all dark and dreary.

At first I hated it too, but as I played through it, I began to appreciate how it's an homage to common grim or dark settings typically found in DnD modules, like Curse of Strahd.

Doesn't make me wish for some sunlight though lol

Thats the best part of the game, you could go overland and skip it...

That's why I wasn't so much of a fan of Morrowind-based stuff. Aesthetics. Gloom, ash, and fungi. Same with Underdark. Prettier, but gloom, dirt, and fungi.

It's just aesthetics. Can't always be pretty forests and bustling streets. It's not as bad as some games where I'll refuse to play again because a section of a game is so unbearable to see as to be unplayable.

Just wish there was a way to save some of those Shadow-cursed folks and a way to recruits the scared hyena (or at least find the creature again to see if it found a happier life or ended up as a Gnoll birthing pod).

More direct involvement with individual good from bad than a side quest for a pretty scene versus a nagging feeling more could've been done.

I've never even seen that hyena... Where is it?

In Morrowind only the ashland parts are gloomy though.

The underdark you can skip, but not the shadow-cursed lands (moonrise towers)

You must take the route to the Shadow-Cursed Lands from the Mountain Pass, go to the goblin group awaiting an escort, make the Goblin go get the bone he was throwing (and die), and talk to the Hyena (Speak with Animals) that the Goblin was trying to kill by throwing the bone. You can convince the hyena that there's nothing to fear from the Goblins for disobeying. The hyena'll run off down the path back to the Mountain Pass but never be seen again.

It's a unique contrast to Act 1 being sunny with a cheerful upbeat tone

I love it. It is probably the best chapter in the game storywise IMHO.

This chapter doesn't make any sense at all, nothing I did carried over to chapter 3

But full of rewards... So... Nice and shining :D

I'm also not really a fan of the shadow cursed lands. It's just missing some things. The optional bosses weren't developed enough. They needed some more story. They need some quests associated with them and some NPCs that you could talk too. Currently the frigging owlbear fight in chapter 1 has more emotion to it than any of the chapter 2 side bosses.
