It depends really on what your PC is balanced on who is best to take with you.
Thanks for the answer !
To be honest, I'm kinda lost, I've played when the game came out and gave up because of the difficulty, my brother playes at a harder difficulty and enjoyed it so I guess the issue is with me :/.
I remember going to the swamp and failing, I should now have the right level. I'm still quite far from leveling up.
I have Astarion, Shadowheart, and Wyll in my party. And I'm a sorcerer
If You are a Sorc, I'd suggest switching out Wyll for Lae'zel or Karlach or Minthara depending on where you are and such. I don't want to spoil.
Alternatively, just keep asking for advice and help, there's plenty of people here willing to help you. I make no judgement over what people do. There's stuff that essentially implements god mode or story mode; not to my taste; but it's there.
Don't count on Shart to hit ANYTHING for the first few levels if you're leaving her stats as they've been set up as default. When she does manage to hit anything it usually pays off but I spent most of my time swearing at her in between those moments. I have friends who have redone her roles and made her into a healing cleric and she's great.
Astarion is fantastic for the sneak attacks when one of your party is right beside a mob, automatic advantage right there. Hiding is great for him. That's where his strengths are early on and later on the hits you can get with a rogue are awesome.
If you're consistently getting low percentages on your ranged shots, try backing up to put a little more space between you and the target, try to get to higher ground or or move so that the space between you both is clearer. You can also use the portable high-ground trick. Have your bow person carry four or five empty crates, you can drop them and stack them without wasting a turn and then climb up as your movement. Then you can shoot from up high - the stats improve immensely.
I would also suggest swapping Wyll out for one of the heavies, either Lae'zel or Karlach so that they can tank for you.
If you are a level 4 party (somehow) and you just skipped every single exp mission and etc and rushed to the UnderDark - yes, I guess you have a problem, once again, you should think harder.
Comparing to DOS2 same topics - if the player in ACT 2 rushed Demon Island or Pit - it’s a player fault, you are not supposed to be here if you haven’t done everything in the town.
You can ask your brother how to play this game, you can also just set level 12 via Nexus modes right from the start, if you still having a hard fight after that, well, godemode only seems to be the only solution.
Also, personal opinion maybe, but sorcerer is a pretty complicated class, especially for a beginner. The mechanics of managing sorcery points are a lot to take in. (Really is personal opinion, everyone has their thing. Druids are famously complicated but have always been my personal favorite in BG3 and in DnD real play, so everyone has their preferences.)
If you're struggling, I highly recommend going either barbarian or rogue to start out, they are powerful but fairly simple. I recommend this for new DnD players too, and it usually helps a lot. Use the scrolls and your companions to practice magic. Make your primary Tav a beefy strong rock with a ton of HP to lean on. I hope this helps!
(Pro tip: When you ask Withers to change your class, you can pickpocket the gold you've paid him afterwards, and there's no penalty for failing. So I just sit and pickpocket him endlessly until I get my money back hahaha)

This is an unfair assessment, in my opinion. I absolutely know what OP means - if they aren't used to the "sense" of playing DnD, its not obvious. DOS is sooooo different in the overall mechanics and strategies. Also, for the record, in BG3 you get a warning message for venturing into the Underdark if you're level 3 or below, so technically the game IS designed for level 4 to be an acceptable entry point to the Underdark. Hilariously, I know this very specific fight well because I'm playing with a buddy who is doing his first run ever on tactician, and he literally came into this EXACT fight a few nights ago, level 4 party against level 7 duergar...and won. Because he made the monsters fight each other leading up to the fight, then made the spore dude we recruited resurrect the f-ing BULETTE for funsies. Turns out, Zombie Bulette stuck around and absolutely destroyed everyone we fought. So it can be done. But while my buddy is new to BG3, he isn't at all new to DnD, so I really think DnD experience matters a lot here.
There are SEVERAL entry points into the Underdark, and several references to the Underdark, so I can absolutely follow the logic in pursuing the first path you find to the Underdark. Don't underestimate "gamer instinct" most of us have - if you're new, you don't have that. I guess I'm just trying to say, OP's moves make total sense to me, and there's no reason to say mean things like "you should think harder". That's not helpful. Be nice. It's a game. We love the game. We want other people to love the game. Saying rude things doesn't help other people love the game.
It essentially lets you make your own custom class, and a bunch of other stuff too.
