I got the Mac for development. I also have a beastly PC. When I heard about the Game Port tool and then developers started to port their games to Apple Silicon I had to try it whenever I owned the game on Windows.
To be honest I was not expecting much, because these games are optimized for the PC chipsets and such, and ports are not generally BETTER performing than the original.
I have tested the Apple Silicon versions of No Man's Sky, ARMA and BG3 thoroughly on my M2 MAX and these games need no scaling at 2056x1329 Aspect and Resolution. Looks amazing on the 16 inch screen at 120hz.
I also play on a 43" 4k monitor.
Lots more devs will make Mac ports with the game port tool. What DLC are you referring to? There is no DLC planned for BG3.
You should buy this game now and install it on the Mac. I play with a PS5 controller when using the Mac. I love using sticks to walk.
Like you I use my machine primarily for other things, but then also gaming ... not the other way around. And of course the Silicon Macs can't emulate Windows anymore, but ....
If I had a quibble, it's the usual story of Mac patches being delayed much later than the Windows ones. And, of course, we got the game itself later. But that was announced. Whatever, all I can say is at least Larian isn't just shafting Mac users, as I could note about certain other titles in development ....
That said, the Mac modding scene is held back by the lack of Script Extender for Macs although I may have just found the solution for it. Also, at least at release there was no Mac Mod Manager, though there is one now ... and I love it. Kudos to the author.
