Can't use Gith shard

I obtianed the gith shard but I cn not get not open the Githyanki barrier whith it. When I try it says "can not use at the moment". I do not want to kill everyone around.

Are you trying to use it on the barrier itself or the control panel next to it?

I tried to insert it in the insert prompt. Control panel.

Are you clicking the insert button / box to open your inventory? They tend to glitch a bit - if so, try opening your inventory normally while the box is up, drag the shard into it and then click insert.
