What's the current state of Act 3?
I've been holding off jumping into act 3 since I've heard that it was buggy and devs kept adding parts to it in major patches.
Can you please give a general opinion on it's current state? Is it good enough to jump in now?

It might still have some bugs but last time I played it iscwas fully navigable and the majority of the quests you could finish no issues.
I've never had so many issues with act 3 it was a major problem though.

I played it after patch #2 and didn't encounter any serious bug (or any I would actually remember at all).

I recently (after patch #5) replayed the ending to get the epilogue and it was without issues as well.

I'm playing it right now. By my estimate, about over halfway. It seems buggier but nothing really gamebreaking. Things like seeing romance dialogue options I shouldn't see (specifically an option indicating I started but didn't progress a romance, when every other choice shows that I am actively in the middle of one) and things like doors not visually opening but characters can still see and walk right through them.

So, like, mildly annoying or confusing at worst, but still an uptick I noticed compared to previous two acts.

I've just been through on current build and ran into nothing game breaking either. Some jank and a bit of polish needed, as Elixer says, but nothing I couldn't just move on past.

The biggest bugs I'm seeing specific to Act 3 (as opposed to more generalized) are ... and I know it's not just mods or just me as people are reporting the same thing ... a lot of people are getting crashes in Jannath's House for Free the Artist. Apparently the culprit may be using See Invisibility there, but uh hello, of course you would WANT to as most of the ghosts are invisible.

Free the Artist is an optional quest, but still, I hope they fix that.

Act 3 has always been playable. Quit listening to the haters and those that own potatoes.

I completed it a short while ago and encountered only a few minor issues. All were resolved without losing any progress. I think as long as Mods are not being used, and the game settings are appropriate for the computer specifications, it is all pretty stable and bug free.

Of course, if one uses Mods or tries to 'game' the game? Then all bets are off. And do be aware that actions taken or not taken in Act 3 can have permanent and significant effects on story details and progression. Those are not 'bugs'.

Good Luck

Just hit it last night and it's an absolute lag fest and I'm not even in BG yet. Was running fine til then. Had to downgrade graphics a lot and it's still barely playable. "Game of the year" lol

That's what happens when BG3 settings are set higher than a computer system can support. Act 3 is very heavy on NPCs, interconnected story lines, and structures. So, much greater impact than Act 1 or Act 2 on the system.

And yes, BG3 IS GOTY pretty much everywhere. And well deserved. Just because it does not run all zippy at max settings on a particular system does not change that well established fact.

Expected "Runs fine for me so your argument is invalid" answer.

"Act 3 broken" is a legit widespread thing. You can blindly blame people's rigs on PC but it's also a bane for PS5 players, which in that case is clearly poor optimization.

I unlocked the "Make it to Act 3" achievement last night and Steam says only 35% of players unlocked it. Says a lot ...

Yeah, it says that many players actually restart the game all the time with new characters and never get to Act 3, because they play the game as dress up and dating simulator (which is fine). It doesn't say anything about the game performance.

If you actually make up quotes that never existed, your whole base for discussion is lost.

Just because a few people shout "Act 3 is broken" does not make it so. There are a lot of reasons why folks think BG3 is 'broken'. Most of them have nothing to do with BG3 code.

Congrats on the achievement! I don't think such a % actually says anything about the game quality. Outside of other information, it really does not say anything other than '35% of players have that achievement'.

Any way, your opinion is as valid as any other person's. :)

Try to have fun in the game. Ending is worth it (in my opinion).
Good Luck

Look man you sound like a decent person. I can only encourage you to Google "BG3 Act 3 unplayable" and see for yourself if your "few people" assessment stands.

My point was opinions on the game would be really different if it started with Act 3. Also says a lot about how enjoyable the game is long term when only a third of players actually got 2/3rd into the game 5 whole months post release.

Only 48% also made it to Act 2 ATM apparently ...

Bugs or no bugs, TBH I wouldn't bother. Act 3 is a HUGE let down.

Last playthrough, the only issue I had was the epilogue apparently not expecting me to nix every one of the 6 origin characters (Shadowheart, Gale, Astarion, Lae'zel, Wyll, and Karlach, all dead before going into Act 2 but some mentioned as alive), and the messages and newspapers in the epilogue seem to get the living and dead mixed up (Minsc/Boo, Jaheira, Halsin, and many, many side-quest NPCs alive shown as dead in some articles and alive in some letters).

Act 3 itself had no issues with having zero origin characters. I really expected something to break in a big way, but nope. Everyone was appropriately mentioning the correct people in the correct states. It was just the epilogue summaries that got them wrong.
