For example this is my first ever turn-based game, no prior knowledge of DnD, so I first started on story mode and it wasn't easy for me. I got recked by the initial fight on the beach with the intellect devourers and I almost gave up with the hyena/Gnoll fight. I hardly got through Act1 and 2 and stopped due to IRL stuff. I then decided to start again on balanced and found it actually easier. I finished that playthrough and now on tactician it feels about the same difficulty.
If on normal or tactician, it should be roughly the same, and if for some reason your on honor mode? They took away some features they left in other modes thay are technically bugs, but they decided it was okay to leave in for non honor modes.
Probably you got better. The game isn't too hard, either, I started at "normal" level and after 2 or 3 battles I decided to go tactician, and this is my first run.
Fighters are very stronk that is highly likely, sometimes what makes the group is a solid set of classes 👌
