I prefer shield if I want armor on a caster class without cross classing.
However with gold dwarf and some other stuff I do wonder what your max HP could be in total if you just pumped it lol personally I would say not to min max it to hard, the racial bonus often don't make the build, I was considering duergar druid for enlarge self and transforming seems like it could be fun.
Armor proficiency is also really good for many classes.
Not all the races in the game are created equally. Play what you want because it's what you want to play, not because of the metagaming advantages it gives you.
Ih yeah I was gonna say that, poison is more used on the harder difficulties xD so can be quite good!
I might with a mod to enable saves xD
Only cuz I don't trust the game on 1 save yet lol
But I was thinking of trying some other mods for classes and stuff to on my next run anyway xD
Racial bonuses are intended to be minor so that you'll choose a race for rp'ing, not min/maxing.
Still, I almost always end up playing Wood Elfs, 1/2 or full, because I love move speed and the weapon trainimg.
Human ain't bad either as a caster with light armor prof, shields and polearm prof.
So...I kinda agree with you. I rarely play dwarfs. But then, I rarely play shortstacks, unless I'm playing a gnome for the mental saves (Gnome with Shield Master is really hard to hit).
A good number of excellent classes lack armor: monk, wiz/sorc, bard ...
Dwarf don't care.
Idk, my hireling dwarf barbarian was pretty manly. Few words, got ♥♥♥♥ done, and was more than eager to be literally thrown into combat
You wouldn't try that with a real dwarf unless you'd like to have your skull split in half.
Put one level into fighter then the rest can go anywhere.
You now have a character that can wear everything and be anything. I made a fighter/monk who has 26+ AC and around 100 health with all of monks damage/attacks. *just slightly less movement
Monks wearing heavy armour and shields negates the one downside of them.
Essentially, race can be anything, but race giving armour/weapons choices is kinda pointless.
