Strange Ox items: Best way to obtain them early?
Apparently the Strange Ox have two items I could dearly use once I meet him again at Last Light Inn. Now, can I just straight kill him without consequences in the beginning of Act II? Will Dammon or anyone aggro? What is the best way to dispossess the stupid ox of the items? ;)

You can kill him in ACT 1 if you wanted. No one aggros in ACT 1 or ACT 2 if you kill it

Thanks. Apparently he has only 1 of the 2 items in Act I. So I want to kill him in Act II. Is there a benefit to keeping him alive?

If you keep him alive and find him in Act 3 and do his little request , don't want to give any spoilers.

He just gives you the items you would loot off him in Act 3. That and you can call upon him on the final battle. If you release and drop his apple form at Baldur's gate.

Yeah so many twist and turns in this game really don't think something so small would really matter. When considering everything else game offers. Not story or character impacting barely hold any significance. If he was severely OP and really change the tides of battle then probably wouldn't of mentioned it.

Yes he is a Beast in the final battle. No Pun intended.
He does lay down some good attacks.

Spoilers.

The big problem I have with Zlorb (the Strange Ox's real name - he's really a shapeshifter) as an ally in "Gather Your Allies" is - dunno if this is a bug, think it was, but in any case it was annoying as crap - I found after a couple of rounds he would turn hostile. The good news is he was down below on the brain and everybody else was on the crown so I didn't care, but it's bizarre he suddenly turns hostile. I don't THINK this is intended.

Don't think is intended. Don't recall him doing that.

So what's the best way to deal with him? Kill him in Act II for the two items? Or keep him alive?

He was probably charmed in some way. Those Ilithid love casting mind ♥♥♥♥ spells. In fact during act 1 can get a ring right off the bat. From the hobgoblins ilithid friend. Which protects against charmed from ilithid effecting your tadpole. So imagine something they like to cast.

He does have a good druid item, if rolling a druid or have one in party. Then maybe give you a little of an edge through act 2 and 3. Though even when i use druids I usually just complete his quest. Up to you and your conscience. Given that's all it will really effect imo. Since I personally didn't find him to helpful at the end.

On my first playthrough I killed him in Act 1 to get the ring early to boost my skill checks with Disguise Self. But this had the side effect that Dammon directly moves to Act 3 and is not available in Act 2, so you can't get his items in Act 2 and the romance with Karlach is impossible as not getting her second upgrade from Dammon in Act 2 auto-fails her romance when Act 3 starts. I heard you can prevent this if you wait with killing the Strange Ox in Act 1 until you have solved the Goblin situation and had the Tiefling party at your camp. But the best option is probably waiting at least until Act 2 to get all his items.

What? I don't think there are boost's for disguise self. Think your getting it wrong he drops a druid ring that boost there role checks. Helps with there rolls checks when thery use a Shapeshifting druid transformation spell. Not the players while shapeshifting using disguise self.

What is meta gaming? Lampros, it sees like you are meta-gaming. Why know before you go?
