How can I fix my background?
Just started and see I missed that. I wouldn't mind restarting, but don't want to re-do making the char. What's the best way to fix that?

Ask Withers to respec your character.

Does that allow changing background? It's too bad 'new game' doesn't let you use an existing char.

Google says it won't: "When you change your class with Withers, you basically get to rebuild your character from the ground up, not including your Race or Background"

They forgot to code the ability to change appearance in-game. Something that even BG1 had implemented in 1998. I guess they were busy counting their cash instead of coding

? Appearance changes in the magic mirror. Is this not enough for you?

Unfortunately, google is correct here.

So there's no way to use the current character whose look I like, to start a new game with a different background or change it?

Bicker about appearance, but can we get an answer about background?

Your Google search is correct, you can not change your background as Seeker1 had told you right before this:)

Background, honestly isn't going to add or take away much from any build. Unless you just want it for RP reason to fit your Tav better

No can't change background or race have to restart.

Not enough. In BG1 you can change your appearance anytime you wish

The background's only mechanics are affecting starter proficiency and how you earn inspiration points. You get zero acknowledgement or dialogue options for it. If it will really be that big a pain to recreate the character, I say just stick with it.

Except for the fact you can indeed change your appearance whenever you want.

Guess Vape was too busy not owning the game to notice.

Background is set in stone.

It's sorcerer, and I wanted sage - instead it's the default acolyte. That seems pretty bad?

The only issue restarting is I like the character appearance so would like to keep that.

Both sage and acolyte are not great for sorcerer, as sorcerer is a charisma primary class and both sage and acolyte give you int/wis based skills.

Int/Wis are not good stats for a sorcerer to bother with, in my opinion, so therefore sage and acolyte are not ideal.

Personally, I prefer entertainer but that's just me. You can't otherwise grab acrobatics, which is quite useful, and you can grab performer which is otherwise restricted. Any background that grants a charisma skill is optimal though.

Well, there's the argument 'acolyte isn't so bad compared to sage', but I had wanted it to fit the char better not for powergaming. Disappointed in the game on this.
