Failed perception rolls should've been hidden by default
Imo, knowing that 4 people just failed a perception throw next to a chest kind of defeats the purpose of a tra being hidden ??

Sadly the rolls still play a sound lol so it's obvious when you fail even though its not visual

I think there's an option to turn failed checks off if you choose Custom settings.

not by default, but in honour mode absolutely.

Maybe in Tactician too, at the very least.

I agree. It totally makes Survival a useless stat and trivialises traps.

They show up in the log. The only sad thing about the log is that I cannot detach it from the windows and show it on another screen so I can read it.

Oh I forgot you have to enable debug for them to show in the log.

I wish I knew what percentage this is done at other tables, but I typically have my players roll for their own perception, survival, etc. checks to detect traps, if not auto-detected by passive perception.

I think the game really captures the funny feeling of that happening at tabletop, with everyone being uber-suspicious I'm making them roll perception in seemingly empty rooms lol

Perhaps, but thats a limitation of tabletop that could've easily been circumvented in game form

Right, kinda defeats the purpose having them roll.

> Player: "I approach the chest".

> DM: ROLL A PERCEPTION!

> Player 2: "I'll also approach the chest, I guess?"

> DM: ROLL A PERCEPTION!

> Player 3: "Uhhh.... I'm going to stay back."

Hiding Perception Ability Checks is not the problem.

What makes traps meaningless is their usual lack of consequence. If they carried more bite it would make dealing with them and their consequences more of an in game choice. But of course then people would whine about dying from traps just as they whine about surfaces.

What makes Ability Checks such a small part of the game is the ease with which you can bias the outcome in your favor.

I had a guy who played a Paladin once who had this annoying habit of just running through the traps and taking the damage, because he knew he could handle it. His own "special" way of disarming traps.

Tbh the only traps I really fell for are those super early ones close to the grove (That explosive chest almost ended my Honour mode)
