There is also a cheesy way to not have alfira killed in that cinematic
You knock out alfira when she's at the grove using non lethal attacks, then go for long rest and you will see that another bard, a dragonborn, comes instead of her. When you wake up afterwards, you can see alfira is again at her place and you can talk to her like normal.
She will be in the inn in act 2.
+1 to Spell Save DC and Spell Attack Rolls (which is always very nice to have)
+2 AC (after Mage Armour, so with MA you get 15 AC without DEX modifier or any potential shield)
some inconsequential healing
It's in Act III, though. In Ramazith's Tower, under one of the invulnerable domes. The levers to open those domes are invisible and need a DC20 Arcana-check to open, so be prepared for that. Under the other dome is Markoheshkir, which is a very good staff.
Also, you can look up stuff about this game here: https://bg3.wiki/
I would recommend this SorLockFtr build:

Very powerful, super fun, and you won't need to worry about robes. :)
