I concur it's illusion for a lot of the dialogue "choices". On my 2nd play through I started picking evil responses to match the party alignment and it doesn't really change the railroaded story line. and No a bunch of drow wouldn't have a flip about curing the shadow curse as they leave act 2.
Aaand then there is Yenna the cockroach... the kid kept walking up to evil drow 3 times after being threatened... very sus. story writing skills there.
My god what are u talking about? "illusion of choice" lmao
Reminds me of ME1 if you are running a Parashep. On Virmire, you can try(and fail) to persuade him to stop, the fight goes on. Before the full on fight with him on the citadel, you can use your persuasion to try to get Saren to see that he dun goof'd in order to avoid it. He admits that after you talked with him, he started to doubt himself, which led to his "god" fully converting him. Your shep can use his persuasion on him again and the dude goes: "Damn, I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up! But I can't stop it!". Your shep goes: "Yes, you can! Redeem yourself and stop this!" Saren proceeds to an hero(before thanking your Shephard). But it was all just an elaborate ruse as he arises fully possessed by Sovereign.
Some of the choices affect something later even if the immediate events play out the same. That's a deviation from a lot of storytelling, a deviation that should become more common than it is.
he doesn't "off himself" lol he transforms into an avatar of Myrkul and when you beat him he transoforms back for some more dialogue. if you check the apostle of death it has ketheric's elven traits lol
Maybe we are watching different scenes then. Because I seem to recall that when you get him to a certain point, he t-poses in front of your party to assert his dominance before going into the pit to sacrifice himself to Myrkul to become his avatar. I'd consider that killing himself. And yeah yeah, he's already dead but my point stands.
