Regarding Volo
Alright I have to get something off my chest. This has been bugging me since my first play through. When you first meet Volo at the Druids Grove he is chatting away with a bear. The bear is PUMPED about getting to unload his life and exploits onto Volo. Volo is PRETENDING to write down the Bears exploits. One of his lines is something along the lines of "If only I could speak Bear" while trying to "decipher" what the Bear is saying, it is a line he says while you just sit there looking at him passively chatting with the Bear.

Why does this bug me so much you ask? Sit down and shush I will tell you.

When trading with Volo at this point the brilliant bard holds 5 potions of Speaking with Animals. He was the first person I got this option from. I thought maybe it is just random coincidence and the game randomizes all of the loot.

But EVERY-SINGLE-RUN I have done, Volo carries 5 potions of Speak with Animal. This bloke has the audacity to try and interview a Bear, doodle the Bear killing people instead, and feign ignorance about his Bear prejudice by saying he would take it seriously "If only I could speak Bear"

Bro....BRO! The disrespect.

Thank you for coming to my rant. Volo is by all accounts a delight. But this oversight shaped my entire worldview of him forever, and very nicely summarizes his character. Forgoing the practical to embellish the account.

Well Volo is a well known liar. Makes things fit his narrative.

Kinda like game threads. LOL!

Volo has only one good quality and it's his skill with an ice pick.

Oh my God Volo is a well known lair and myth weaver, nothing he ever puts down is close to the truth, there is a reason why he mentions a bad run in with gith they hate lairs

He has been the lair of the realms since first introduced

The game nailed two of the most well know chars of the realm down perfectly

Well, Volo likes is a liar. If you're not a Bard yourself who can see through this kind of shenanigans, he writes that there was a silver dragon with the goblins when it was obviously gold

Not to mention if you play a dragon blood sorc, he really goes to town on the story

Volo is in the lore considered one of the least truthful guys in existence ;) If you speak with the bear you can also learn what he actually writes down (ie, a picture of the bear killing goblins, not a SINGLE WORD) ^^

Oh my goodness that Dragon bit made me roll my eyes, and he was all like "every good story is better with a Dragon"

But THEN I went up to save the gal from the rogue and then took a gander through the telescope and what do I see!?

A DRAGON! Volo was right. O_O

In all seriousness though I do also really love the letter he prepares while in captivity at the Goblin Camp where he embellishes the relationship he has with his captor and writes "she lovingly calls me Pige" and goes on to say maybe next he will write a book on Goblin relationships lol.

Epilogue spoilers.

Talk to him in the epilogue. He's doing an "unauthorized biography" of you and your adventures. He would like you to sign the release.

Or, maybe, he'll just forge your signature for you.

He's just so Volo.

Personally, I don't let him icepick my eye. There is no gameplay downside to it, but see invisibility is fairly easy to acquire and cast.

This is the type of complaining I fully support.

Volo was killed after stealing the Zhentarim chest and opening it in camp. He was petrified before anyone could act. Then he somehow weighed 5000 pounds and could not be lifted or moved, unpetrified, resurrected or anything His corpse became a permanent camp fixture. Latest patch fixed his weight and now his statue graces the druid grove (until Elminster finds him and brings him back).

Well, that was the reward for taking the chest to camp and opening it there. It was/is very funny.

It doesn't take a vivid imagination to picture why. But do illuminate what sparks fire to this flame.
10 gold says he drank a potion and is doing it on purpose lol
