That being said, you might want to respec your party into the 'Alert' feat for all four of them.
I just did that Redcap fight earlier today. All four of my party went first and were not surprised. So they shot the two closest ones dead, then retreated 40ft back. Gale put down a grease patch and the team just picked them off as they stumbled into it.
The only Redcap that hit anyone was a guy up on a hillock. After the rest were down, he was easy to pick off.
In my opinion, the 'Alert' feat at Lvl 4 is far more valuable than any other feat that can be taken. YMMV
some enemy have cheese too. These have, for example, a weapon you can't even wield, for no reason other than DM is cheating and doesn't want you to use them (same as the doctors weapons later on).
