Heh. Don't know what else to expect but a VERY tough fight.
My guess is its their solution to that, its a roadblock on purpose, its one of the hardest act 1 fights because its there to stop you progressing.
Whats interesting about it is just that you can get a legendary weapon from that fight if you can beat the fight and use an invis potion.... Not sure why they let us do that.
No no...the Shar fight is the most difficult and unbalanced. Until I learned how the blind mechanic worked I almost rage quit. Death to the cult of Shar.
It isnt much of a choice when 3 of the 4 dialogue options with Lae'Zel lead to you going into combat, the only option that has you avoid combat requires both a perception AND deception check, which if failed you go into combat anyway.
This is the path to the creche, where Lae'Zel has been complaining for you to go this whole time, and when you go there and let her do her thing, it ends horribly.
In my opinion this is poor design, they shouldnt be pushing you in the narrative direction to go to the creche, then block it by this death squad because theres some uber legendary weapon up the path that the devs put there intentionally. If anything you should be led there naturally, with a difficulty curve and then have a fight that is rewarding you with the legendary (Like Ansur in Act 3 to get the greatsword and helmet).
Odd. My conversation with Voss was short and successful. Did not even have Lae'zel in the party. Of course, I do have a 'party face' character to lead and I am not sure what the whole 'Perception' and 'Deception' thing you mention was about. Cannot really remember what I had for a check, but it was not one of those. And it was only a single check.
In any case, I have never had to fight that patrol and it was never an issue. If you had Lae'zel along, you did let her do that talking?
Yes the persuasion and deception check was if you let Lae'Zel do the talking. You let her talk, then it gives 4 options, one of which is you persuading her to "Go along with him" and then afterwards she has to do a deception check.
If you have Lae'zel, and let her do the talking, she has to pass a deception check. Letting her do what she thinks is right will lead to a fight. If you don't have a character with good social skills leading the conversation, it's hard to avoid the fight, as most dialogue paths lead to combat or require multiple dice rolls to avoid it.
This second play through, Lae'zel was not in the party and I am pretty sure I just had to roll an easy Persuasion check for Voss not to stab us. :)
I do not think I used Inspiration in either case.
