Are monks just a broken class?
Honestly, hitting level 10 and just realised my supe'd up Fighter wearing all my best gear cannot deal anywhere near as much damage as my monk, who can fly across the battle in an instant while multi attacking so many times. I mean one ability already is hitting up to 50+ damage in one attack while also toppling enemies so that the rest of the onslaught has advantage.

His basic fists on a normal punch does more damage then legendary weapons with higher accuracy. (though honestly the legendary weapons i've found so far feel weaker then they should considering a green hammer has a better ability then them and super rare stuff seem to just be better, they really should buff the legend gear)

The only thing that seems to hold him back is monks die a lot easier then my never hit fighter. I guess its just that they are truly glass cannon melee fighters and that's the balance? That they can do LOADS More damage then any weapon in the game with just their fists while attacking potentially 10 times in one turn.

When you have one character that can do upwards of 300 damage in one turn, it must be interesting to balance around that.

You could potentially make the same argument over wizards who can dual wield two staves to get 5 chain crit lighting bursts after tossing a bottle of water.
Or druids who can effectively double concentrate (yes they can) an aoe snare that destroys enemies and still can shapechange and bodyslam as a giant owlbear.

Monk is easy mode even on honour mode.

You can build a Fighter or Paladin to put out similar damage, but you have to build around crit damage and Fighter doesn't really catch up until you get your 3rd attack.

There are some tradeoffs for Monk; mainly the squishiness (low AC and HP) and lack of ranged options or group support. Unlike the other Martials, however, Monk is a straight up killer the second you hit level 4 and get Tavern Brawler.

there are way more op classes like paladins and warlocks

They're not a strong in tabletop, to be sure.

In tabletop if you give a wood elf monk the mobile feat you get a fast untouchable monk :) Tavern Brawler is the meta in BG3 but Mobile is pretty cool.

So thanks to this threads ideas already my Monk that was 19AC is now choosing between 24-25 AC and can't be crit. His damage also went up once I realised I can just use Hill Giant potions for str so he gained stats elsewhere.

So the class I thought was broken apparently was not broken enough xD And I don't have anything from act 3 yet which I hear drops some super stuff for Monks.... delicious.

my Fighter 8 (Champion)/Rogue 4 (Thief) with Dual Hand Crossbows does insane amounts of damage AND it has 4 feats like a Fighter 12 would. after gear, it has a Critical Range of 15-20 if attacking from stealth/invisibility and 16-20 otherwise. you'd think a 1D6 weapon wouldn't be so dangerous, but it routinely deals enough damage to 1 turn bosses. (Risky Ring so guaranteed Sneak Attack and Advantage)

Yeah I thought that was the tradeoff but about to enter Act 3 and now he's tankier then my what I thought was my tank while outdpsing the used to be tank by miles by just going into fighter and multi classing at 8 monk 2 fighter. 25 AC monk that can do hundreds and hundreds of damage with status effects like stun and topple per turn that can jump anywhere in the field....

By max level Fighter, Paladin and Sword Bard can match or beat Monk damage with the right gear/builds.

Monk + Tavern Brawler is just busted way earlier than other classes, and stays busted without having to put much thought into your build or itemization.

You just don’t know how to build a fighter , I have soloed Honor more act 3 with a mono class fighter with no issues and it deals way more damage than open hand monk

In Neverwinter Nights, Multi Classed Monk is strongest class also. I forget but I think the MC was a Sorc? It's been a while.
Fist damage, extra attacks, high AC, high movement.

But that sounds you don't know how to build a monk. See its easy to just accuse someone else of something in this game that's easy to break. You just used a different way to break it by having one character wearing all of the games best items as a fighter.

Difference here is a monk doesn't need all that to be tankier and do more damage with higher accuracy because a single str potion and Tavern brawler outdps's legendary weapons and gear. And you can get that at level 4.
