Sudden Illithid powers in Act 2 when I haven't used a tadpole
Has anyone experienced this? I just noticed that I suddenly have the illithid skill tree unlocked, and going back to my autosaves, it's been there a while. The skill I unlocked is called 'favourable beginnings' but I haven't consumed a tadpole nor, to my knowledge, done anything else that should have unlocked this tree.

Is there anything that happens in act 2 that has triggered this? Or is it a bug?

How positive are you that you didn’t doubleclick a tadpole by mistake? I’ve done that before and it’s all it takes

Pretty positive, I store them all in camp. But if that's all it takes, I can't rule it out completely I suppose.

That seems kind of a design flaw; I'd expect a small cutscene.

There is no cutscene for using a regular tadpole.

There is one for becoming "part-illithid".

It does seem to me like it would be nigh impossible to just do by accident, however.

It's possible that when I've clicked and dragged them to the storage trunk, the mouse has perhaps double clicked; can't rule it out. Guess I'll just go back to the earliest save without it and try to be more careful, or at least notice when it happens.

Yeah, I’ve done it by accident with a mis-timed click and drag. It really needs a confirmation barrier

Wait ... so if you just double-click a tadpole it automatically assigns it to "favorable beginnings"? I've never just double-clicked a tadpole, I guess.

That literally does Nothing ....

It only LEARNS a new ability if you double click IN that menu... double clicking the Tadpole just 'adds it to the pool' that you have ... stop spreading misinformation lol.

Oh I didn’t see that op said he had favourable beginnings.

Op I changed my answer, you got drunk and became a squid

I believe some tadpoles can be added through dialogue, such as meeting True Soul Edowin and his brother and sister in act 1. If you choose to submit to the tadpole's power or lose your roll, the tadpole will be auto-assigned.
There may be other times it can happen, but I can't think of any off the top of my head right now.

Whole tadpole thing doesnt matter for the plot. So just relax.

Also you have already one tadpole in your brains... So it may have something to do with this matter...

consume or dont consume it has literally 0 effect on the story and how things play out

This is mostly, if not completely, false.

I gave in to the tadpole powers when talking to Edowin and their siblings.

All it did was open up the Tadpole menu for selecting powers. There was no "auto assignment".

The scene plays out like you are absorbing the tadpole but you 100% just add it to your inventory until you actually select your power.

Simply recruiting Minthara unlocks the UI for Tav (I guess because Minthara already used tadpoles). The game also bugs out about it and thinks that it was MC that used a tadpole because suddenly the dialogue options to convince others to use the tadpoles appears.

Ahhh ok this will be it. I've never used Minthara before because I've never done an evil playthrough. I started a new game to recruit her specifically now you don't have to be evil. This has got to be it. Thank you.
