True Soul Gut no tadpole on corpse
Anyone else had this issue?

BTW, once illithid powers are unlocked, when you get additional tadpoles, they no longer appear as physical items in your inventory. They appear as a number on the edge of your illithid power selection interface, telling you how many tadpoles you have, and how many powers you can unlock.

After a while, you won't see them in your inventory any more. You'll just see that number increase every time you find one.

Is it lootable, or do you have to do something to get it?

Does it give you anything specifc?

From my understanding, depending on your game route, you can side or pretend to side with the Absolute later to get "Gift of the Absolute" which gives you one tadpole for every tadpole you technically didn't consume in early chapters, but only covers true soul candidates. This would take into effect if a bug prevented you from consuming a tadpole from Gut, or if you simply didn't kill that character for the Tadpole like that drow girl who can join your party.
For less evil inclined characters I believe you can accept the Gift and then kill him immediately for a bonus Tadpole as well as the gift bottle. Or would that be truly evil? I guess it could be.

So if you can't solve the missing tadpole problem in your game save you can make up for it later with dialog choices.

Is there any way to confirm which tadpoles I've consumed?

Not that I am familiar with, the most reliable method is the old way, print out a document that has a checklist of each tadpole, from a guide. Though, you can check the guide and see if you have the amount of powers that matches how many you have encountered if in chapter 1 for example. It looks like the max you can get is 8 in chapter 1, if you either kill everyone involved or take the gift + killing the holder of the gift after.

So I don't need the tadpole to finish the quest?

Okay figured it out, it's the red number top right of sceen. It isn't actually a specific loot like I first thought

no, just killing her is the quest itself, the tadpoles are buffs to your character technically, but like I said earlier you can get it later in this case through smart dialog choices. You can actually play though the game without using tadpoles at all if you wish.
I believe someone said there is about 40+ of them hanging around but only 25 tadpole power slots, unless you decide to give some to your companions of course.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I had 2, and I found 1 on the corpse and guess the 2nd was from the goblin mini boss. I'm assuming the one you start with doesn't count.

It does, but it is automatically slotted into the first slot NE of the center slot. The center slot is filled when the Guardian activates the ability. :)
