[side quest spoilers] Teahouse situation
How do I avoid gas in Auntie Ethel's lair? If I put a whispering mask on my character goes under auntie's control. Otherwise if I rush through gas my party recieves huge amount of damage. I'm considering abandoning this quest unless I find a way to get to the end.

Use the spell called protection from evil or something similar before you put on the mask

Go thru with single character not your whole party. Use fire to burn up gas, gust of wind, etc. and jump to safe spots.

Then as you reach the bottom, stick to the right stairs and don't trigger the fight. Go thru the bottom door and activate the mushroom circle in Ethel's lair.

Then after that 1 character uses the mushroom circle to go to surface, take the rest of your party out the front entrance and regroup with that 1 character. Then use the mushroom circle to go back to Ethel's lair as a group.

If you spot the traps you can throw a piece of armor or something to cover the vents turning them off

Aside from all the tips already here (I used to pick up "Heavy Stones" from the Owlbear cave to block Vents)

you can also try to kill Ethel before you even enter her Lair.
This is usually achieved at level 4 or higher, but definitely possible at level 3.
You need an AoE attack that hits her while she is invisible, and then need to have luck hitting "Command: Grovel" or "Command: Halt" while you just beat her up.

Keep every rag you find, it works just as well.
Throw the rag onto the gas traps and it stops them working.
