Is this game better with friend or singleplayer?
I want the best experience for this game.

Thank you everyone for your time.

Depend on the friend(s).

With good close friends, playing for fun and not progression, then friends is great.

But, for progression, play single-player.

You can have multiple Campaigns in the game so can do both at the same time. Just cannot do both in a single Campaign at the same time. ;)

Good Luck

I tried multiplayer first, and it is not great. There is nothing really different about it. It is just the single player campaign with more human controlled players. For me the problems were a combination of missing story elements but also just kinda slowing down my party because I don't have as much experience with the game. I'd advise against multiplayer for your first playthrough UNLESS you and the other player(s) can be in the same room and are experiencing the game together for the first time.

I had a great time with friends but I will say it is a bit of a pain if one of your team is talking but your friend and their companion have the guidance and you can't cast it mid conversation like in singleplayer

This is a bad take.

The game is fantastic multiplayer.

If you're looking for a true RP experience and minimal bsing, play single player.

If you're looking to have a good time with friends (in my opinion the true D&D experience) play with friends.

Depends on the level of communications - there are many ways things can go wrong or the other player can miss something.

I can certainly say that this game is actually decent in single-player, unlike DOS2. So, might try to play solo first, then with friends.

Edit. Forgot to mention, there are piles of useless loot, and the other player might feel differently about collecting, sorting, and selling them. The issue is that it will take time.
Additionally, a player-controlled Origin character effectively loses their personality.

You can ask your friend to cast it, though. Not as quick as doing it yourself, but still possible.
What is friend.

I envy the people who can spend enough time with a friend to play this in co-op. If I started it with one of my friends playing when both of us are free, it would take years to finish the campaign.

I think the ideal is one friend co-op. That way you get some of the multiplayer experience without having to sacrifice too much of the companion storylines and content.

I'm on 3 multi player campaigns and like everything in life, it's more fun with friends.

Always better together, I had a hard time fully enjoying the game until I made a coop run which was a blast

yeah I know, that's why I specifically mentioned the mid conversation bit cos you HAVE to cast it beforehand otherwise

It really depends on whether you want a glorious mess or a coherent narrative experience, in my experience
