I'm not sure anyone has a story reason except Lae'zel. Most of the time I just go with whoever is in my party at the time, although having some non-fire-based AOE spells for the final fight is a good idea.
Then there's some dialogue when you return where she tells you the respite is over. Not a reason to have to take her, but I am just pointing it out. I don't think taking her affects her storyline or fate.
I wondered if Wyll would have any unique character dialogue in HoH; didn't particularly see any.
Lae'Zel is very happy to hear about taking the Hammer which you can tell her at camp, but she doesn't have to be there when you do so. It's not one of those things where she gets upset about not being on the team.
From a tactical point of view, make sure you bring someone or something that can protect you from fire damage. Don't take anything that deals fire damage, all the devils are immune to it. Karlach's soul coins will be more useless than usual.
Downside is that the she is quite vulnerable to getting mind-controlled by Raph's love slave. That sucks when she starts attacking you.
But Lae'zel definitely has the very specific motivation of ensuring that the party gets the hammer.
