Can someone convince me to buy this game?
I tried BG 1 and BG 2 a long time ago but its was just way too much reading for me. I like games like Witcher and Skyrim but unsure if this will be a good fit. Should I just take the plunge?

Edit; I've decided not to buy this game. Too much agenda pushing and it doesn't look very fun or interesting. Looks like a Divinity Original Sin 2 clone. Yawn.

So in the end the combat was too slow and uninteresting for you to continue playing? Is that what did it for you?
Ok, buy this game.

Steam has a great refund policy. You'll know within two hours if you really enjoy the play style this game offers.

If you don't enjoy reading, I doubt reading other peoples comments are going to convince you of anything. Just buy the game, give it a roll, refund if displeased.

Everything (apart from your own dialogue choices) is voice acted so there's less reading involved than in the old games.

But it ultimately comes to whether turn based combat turns you off or not. If you like playing around with DnD mechanics and enjoy the idea of more tactical, as opposed to action based, combat encounters it's worth a shot. But if the gameplay doesn't seem appealing to you then don't bother.

if you do not like lots of dialogue and you prefer fast paced combat this will not be something you'd normally consider.

if its not to your taste then its not to your taste, judging by your game choices of arpgs, perhaps the batman games, horizion, or shadow of war?

If you need convincing after this game being praised by teh vast majority of players, teh vast majority of reviewers and getting GOTY you clearly have no intention to buy the game or should not buy it period.

I love reading. But I pick up a book when I want to do that. I play video games to have fun and have a good time.

I enjoy Slay the Spire, Civ 5, and XCOM. Its just when you combine the turn based combat with the tons and tons of dialogue, that's where you start to lose me.

isn't every single event in slay the spire functionally just a bunch of dialogue, as thats the only way the game can describe things to you seeing as its an unvoiced card roguelike?

either way, my suggestions remain the same if this particular combo doesn't work for you.

No, there's almost zero dialogue in Slay the Spire. You play cards, fight enemies, fight bosses, get loot and buy stuff from merchants. Hmm, okay I may give it a go and just skip thru the dialogue and see if I enjoy just killing stuff.

If you enjoy turn based games I'd encourage you to give BG3 a shot. There's a lot of plot and dialogue, but I never felt that dialogue sections were overly long or overbearing. Most of the game is going to be spent exploring and in combat, not choosing dialogue boxes.

But everyone's tolerance is going to be different.

If you aren't into story - meaning reading and understand the situations that you will or have put yourself in - you will typically not like most CRPG, RPG, JRPG - WoW, Lineage 2, Or any game that requires a complex understanding of not only the world around you, but the politics of each nation or place.

Additionally - no.
I cannot convince you to do anything.
I have given you the complete layout.
It is up to you to decide what you want.
No one can do it for you as they do not know your likes or preferences.

It'd be a huge waste to buy this game just for the combat and not to play it for all that it has.

to be fair, as long as they have fun it doesn't functionally matter.

though i do doubt they'll have fun with how much dialogue there is.
