From what I know it is compatible but not worth it.
Keep in mind: Sneak Attack scales with the class level of Rogue. At level 1 Rogue you just have the weakest form of Sneak Attack.
Might also want to research Ranger a bit and see if you REALLY want to put so many levels into it rather than do a stronger multi-class build. :)

Or, better, take 9 levels of Rogue (Assassin) and only 3 levels of Ranger (Gloomstalker) for the biggest Sneak Attack possible. Or I guess 8/4 if you really need all 3 ASI/feats.
