The only cases where the book disappear like that are those with mods involved.
In any other case it is a simple matter of misplacement.
Zero mods involved. I simply picked it up on my hands but didn't open it. Then sent it straight to the camp chest. Haven't touched it since.
I doubt that, as I did that countless times without any issues. 100% outruling I cannot either. But so far every case involved some sort of mods or additional avatar.
You have your doubt, but that means nothing in the face of the fact that the book has disappeared.
Already double checked all of them in act 1. No luck.
Start over may be your only solution if you want to read that book in a bad way!
I started over 3 times trying to get Minthara as well as Saving the Grove, and thanks to the kind person who first answered your post above, their little guide, i finally got her without slaughtering the poor tree huggers! lol
Of course, as a game story item, it can't be sold to vendors, either.
So then when i dropped it on the ground, used guiding bolt on it, and fought till its destruction...was a bug?:D
There are a number of possibilities:
1. You said "Zero mods involved.". You did NOT say "Zero mods installed.". If there are mods installed, you may not think they can impact the game, but I assure you they can. Not making any judgement here. Just clarifying.
2. You accidentally sent it to a Camp Companion. You can now send stuff to ANY companion in Camp, even if they are not in your party. You will need to check ALL of them.
3. The book is in someones inventory or bag, but it is now below the visible bag slots. You will need to scroll down or sort by type to see it.
4. The game adds additional Travelers Chest as you play. Look for a second Travelers Chest. May be in there.
I hope it is #2 or #3 or #4, and you find the book. If it is #1, others may be able to help with that. :)
Good Luck
