Mods to Remove Woke
It's baffling and frankly disappointing that Nexus Mods refuses to allow a mod for Baldur's Gate 3 that would remove the game's heavy-handed approach to social issues. As gamers, we turn to fantasy worlds like Baldur's Gate for escape and adventure, not to be bombarded with modern social narratives. Yet, Nexus, a platform celebrated for championing gamer choice and customization, is denying us the very thing it stands for.

The game, in its current state, feels less like a fantasy RPG and more like a checklist of diversity and inclusivity. While inclusion is important, in Baldur's Gate 3, it often feels forced and distracting from the core gaming experience. Overpowered female NPCs, a spectrum of LGBTQ+ characters, and other elements seem more focused on ticking boxes than enhancing the story or gameplay. For many players, this detracts from the immersive experience that the Baldur's Gate series is known for.

So, why won't Nexus Mods allow a mod to tailor the game to individual preferences? After all, isn't the essence of modding to personalize and enhance the gaming experience according to each player's taste? By not allowing such mods, Nexus seems to be taking a stand that contradicts the very principle of gamer autonomy and customization.

It's time for Nexus Mods to reconsider its stance and acknowledge that part of the beauty of gaming is the ability to shape our experiences to our liking. A mod that streamlines Baldur's Gate 3 to focus more on traditional fantasy elements, without the overt social justice themes, isn't about exclusion; it's about preserving the escapism that RPGs promise. Nexus, by not allowing this, is essentially dictating how we should experience games, which goes against the spirit of modding and the freedom it's supposed to offer.

NO it's about erasing a community that you find their very existence offensive.

And never use escapism as an excuse because we know it's a lie.

If that's what you interpret out of his argument, then you have to work on your reading comprehension skills.

imagine complaining there are gay people in a video game and nexusmods has a right to police their own content, a double whammy of silly remarks

It’s not about erasing anything at all.

It’s simply just a preference to play video games the way we wish.

In the realm of contemporary discourse, the term "woke" has become both a rallying cry for social justice advocates and a target for those in the anti-"woke" movement who dismiss it as unnecessary or even harmful. In this column, I will delve into the roots of anti-"woke" sentiment, asserting that its rejection of progressive values is akin to historical resistance seen as far back as the year 1462. Just as the Renaissance was transforming society, the current anti-"woke" movement represents a regressive stance that resists crucial societal evolution.

Childish Resistance:

To label the anti-"woke" movement as childish is not an attempt at name-calling but an observation grounded in behavior. Akin to a child who refuses to engage with uncomfortable truths or adapt to changing circumstances, the anti-"woke" movement often exhibits a stubborn resistance to acknowledging systemic issues such as racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination. This resistance stems from a desire to maintain a simplistic worldview, shying away from the nuanced complexities of societal issues.

Historical Parallel – The Year 1462:

The year 1462 serves as an intriguing historical parallel, offering a lens through which we can understand the anti-"woke" sentiment. In the 15th century, the Renaissance was unfolding, challenging traditional values and celebrating intellectual curiosity and societal progress. Yet, this period also witnessed staunch resistance from those who clung to the status quo, fearing the erosion of long-held beliefs.

Similarly, the anti-"woke" movement today can be seen as a contemporary manifestation of this resistance to social progress. Those who oppose the ideals of being "woke" often fear the changing landscape of societal norms, forcing them to confront uncomfortable truths and reconsider ingrained privileges.

The Evolution of Societal Consciousness:

Just as society evolved from the medieval period to the Renaissance, our current era demands a reevaluation of collective consciousness. The Renaissance marked a shift towards an enlightened and informed society, embracing diversity, knowledge, and critical thinking.

The "woke" movement mirrors this call for progress, advocating for a society that is aware of and actively addressing social injustices. It calls for a nuanced understanding of privilege, discrimination, and systemic issues, emphasizing empathy and compassion. In contrast, the anti-"woke" stance represents resistance to this societal evolution, a desire to cling to outdated ideologies, and a reluctance to engage with the complexities of contemporary challenges.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, labeling the anti-"woke" movement as the most childish thing since the year 1462 is not an exaggeration but a reflection of its regressive nature. Much like historical periods marked by resistance to societal progress, the anti-"woke" sentiment represents a reluctance to embrace necessary change and confront uncomfortable truths. As society continues to evolve, it is crucial to recognize the importance of adopting a "woke" perspective, which fosters an enlightened, empathetic, and just world. The alternative is a perilous journey backward, reminiscent of a time when progress was met with fear and resistance.

Sadly they’ll continue to tow that moral line till their bottom line starts taking a hit which in today’s society might not ever happen. While BG3 is a great example for other companies to follow as far as quality it concerned, it just serves as a reminder that in the future my money won’t be going to support such agenda driven products again. Especially when they can be had for nothing…. :B1:

I owned the game. I simply refunded it. Please check properly before spreading misinformation.

Don't care, opinion remains discarded.

No, respectfully I have some valid points on the post. Would you kindly address some of them?
Peeratat Dec 28, 2023 @ 11:18pm
I’ve stated before that I’m probably going to re-purchase the game if I could overlook the woke aspect.
