Is durge the best story?

I started a new durge game but only played like an hour. Im just wondering is it wildly different experience from a standard character? Or should i just watch it on youtube?

It's different like any playthrough would be. There's a lot of permeations and no two playthroughs, Durge or otherwise are likely to be the same.

Durge isn't so different in Act 1, but starts to get widly different once u get to later part of Act 2 and especially Act 3. A lot of surprises for you that really makes you the main canon of the story. In short, its good and better in my opinion then the standard.

Think of Durge as giving your character an origin story and personal plot. If you don't pick Durge your character is basically a blank slate who's story significance is entirely on the forthcoming plot, rather than anything from their past. Durge gives you a backstory and sideplot to resolve over the course of the campaign, not dissimilar to your companion's personal quests!

I have finished a "Resist" Durge playthrough and I would claim that it is, overall, the best story.

You find out why in the final Act of the game, but there are tie-ins to the main plot in a very big way as well as from past games such as BG1-2. Not to mention two certain companions.

I consider Durge to be the canon MC because of all these reasons. I grew up on the BG series so to see how everything related was a complete treat for me.

Planning to start a Durge in a little while and playing out a resist streak. But I read somewhere that if you restrain it totally you later get harder dice checks on its desires. Is that true? Just would be good to know it when planning the character build

Yes, its really what ties the game very tightly to the previous ones. Just do it.

Dark Urge is supposed to by canonical main character of the game. In both BG1/2 you play as durge.

Yes, ties you directly to the whole story more than even the other origins.

Doesn't really kick off until act 3 though.
