Generaly, our brief and bloody history as a species portrays a series of power struggles, with cultural mixing often leading to dominance by one group. So, seems that in teh grand scheme of history, the acquisition and maintenance of power have often been more influential drivers of change and cultural dynamics than the pursuit of equality among different groups.

And human societies in general are constantly proving again and again that they are inherently prone to conflict and competition for supremacy rather than finding a true and long lasting peaceful coexistence.

Well, the fact that every american pack a firearm worked when the most advanced thing were forward loading cannons. Now, not so much.
As an example the Spanish Republic armed it's citizens to stop the fascist traitors; they had the numbers. Then Nazi Germany, Italy and other countries totally not including the "defenders of democracy" good ol' USA gave the traitors more resources than what the Republic got from the USSR. And democracy lost. So having lots of people with light weapons couldn't do much during the first half of the century. Now? Theoretically less powerful sides win because what they get from the outside is better than what the side with the army have. Problem here is that there is nothing more powerful than the US armed forces.

Since civil wars are particularly vicious, lines would probably be crossed, and in those scenarios the biggest boom win.

And Ukraine mostly held because of the outside support, and what the western allies provide the ukrainians is generally more advanced than what Russia can consistently deploy. Given how corrupt the russian army is, saying they ever had the quality is debatable.

Anyway, that's just my take.
