Weapon Coating - Do You Dip?
I am just wondering while writing on one of my guides.

Do You actually drop weapon coatings and such to make a puddle so every character in your party dip into it and everyone benefits, or do you use them as "coat weapon via bonus action" only?

Do you even dip your weapon at all? Fire, etc. ?

I was aware of the mechanic. I even carried a candle just in case. But I never seem to be a situation where dipping a weapon was worth more the bash bash bash :)

Well, it is "free" extra damage if you have the (bonus) action points spare. And stuff like Worm Toxin can hit quite hard too. That what makes me wonder how people use it.

Y'know I completely forgot about this mechanic and now I'm laughing at the thought of a party member tossing a potion onto the floor with the party gathering around it to dip their swords in

"Hey! No double dippin, my sword was just in there!"

This was great when the puddles were "glitched".
As in a couple patches ago, some of the toxins after dipping would actually apply non-timed coating to weapons.

I kept a couple puddles at camp that stay through long rests. Wyvern at least, multiple uses until i move to another camp and higher dmg. Purple worm (or whatever is called) was even better, then the serpent toxin.

It was great cause they stayed on the weapons without having to do silly shenanigans of pre-combat preparation.

Sadly last time i tried using it it appears they were fixed, and now the coating is timed just like applying straight to weapon.
Much less use.
I will still use it as a bonus action coating IF the character in question does not have a better bonus action during combat.

Fire dipping though is kinda idk, a chore for little gains. a D4 can help a tiny bit in the first couple levels but then it's pointless.
The extra damage rider however can allow for some shenanigans with the broken DRS ( TB feat is fixed but we still have others)

I have never used it in the full game except for a joke, it can certainly be useful for the first few levels where bonus actions are reserved for potions almost exclusively but once you have 1-2 magic items or a spell like Misty Step it quickly becomes a very situational and almost useless bonus action, better off searching for high ground or shoving an enemy to control the field. I would say dual wielders may get theoretical use out of it but then I remembered it takes a bonus action to attack with both weapons and even with a Thief you're better off attacking twice.

It's funny, I remember tons of people complaining about this ability being a bonus action before the game came out, ♥♥♥♥ I even think I did it.

No, never. No need for it.

No. Too lazy to dip. Used Oil of Accuracy occasionally. That's it.

Yea ultimately if it wasn't for the patching up they did, puddles at camp would still be useful.
This whole dipping thing just reminded me of DOS2. Kinda feel like playing again silly elemental mechanics. It sucks to have a huge backlog of games tho lol
Don't bother.

I'm not that good at the game so my team dips. We carry boxes and candles and various poisons and toxins. Every little bit helps. lol

i would only if I was desperate and wiped in a battle a couple of times already. Otherwise that rabbit stays in the hat.

I was doing in my very first playthrough... but eventually just stopped doing it. Too lazy to do it.
