Do you eventually get a house?
I found some fancy paintings I would hang, but is this just trash or will I have a wall I can hang them on?

Nope on the house. The random paintings that you can loot, are basically useful for resale.

I've been selling them, but I've seen people say you can decorate your camp. But I don't think they can go on walls, and they end up in the chest when you move camps, so it hasn't seemed worth it to try.

It's possible to rent a room at one of the taverns in Baldur's Gate City. When you then go to camp, you always camp in that place, regardless of where you are in Act 3 and you can decorate it. Dunno about hanging paintings, would assume so. Closest thing the game has to "player housing".
