Just hit level 4 and Risen Road.. Why Do I Feel So Weak?
New to BG3 playing on default difficulty level and I ALWAYS feel weak in every battle. If I can't talk my way out of a fight, it usually ends in slaughter. It's like every fight is so overtuned, it's not even fun. The Hag's Cave. The Pallies. The Gnolls. Everything is way more powerful than me. What am I missing or is this a common complaint?

It just depends on your party and your own build. It can be from basic things like equipment, bad luck on rolls ( I hate this one ), even the environment can be against you at times.

Try ambushing enemies before rushing them, sneak as close as you can and then either range attack or melee. This gives you a turn to hit them for free, use scrolls and potions to make your characters stronger such as Strength potions and speed (Be careful of speed as it comes with a major draw back if you don't end the fight fast).

What build is your character using?

Thanks for the tips - I am a Wizard then I have Gale, Astarion, and Shadowheart. Most of my attacks and spells miss. That's the worst part. That Pally I am fighting can attack three times in one turn!

Level 4 -> 5 is a big jump in power.

Everybody gets +1 proficiency bonus at that point.
Fullcasters get their third-level spell slot.
Most martial types get Extra Attack.
Rogues don't get Extra Attack, but they do get an additional damage die added to sneak attack, at least, plus some more survivability from Uncanny Dodge.

If you haven't already, you might want to thoroughly explore e.g. the bulidings in the Blighted Village -- in particular, the cellars.

Thanks! I have explored and beat everything except: Goblin Camp, bottom of Hag's hut, Risen Road. Most of the fights I have talked my way out of...

Do yourself a favor, go back to Camp and visit Withers and have everyone respec to take 'Alert' as their first feat.

'Alert' means you always go first in combat and are never surprised. It is a real game changer.

You won't have to try and talk your way out of fights anymore.
