Returning Pike Bug
I just want to help you guys , when u maybe have the same Problem as i did today.

The Returning Pike is a little bit Buggy at the moment , i played for hours with it and bam , dissapeard at the Grymforge , it was Gone !!! I checked every Bag , the Camp aall Chest , all Bodys there , even all the Traders from Act 1 , and then i found it , i wanted to check just to be 100% sure and there it was xddd back at the Trader at the GoblinCamp ( his dead body ) it returned Home lol haha

I lost track of the Gloves of Power somewhere and I don't think I sold it.

Sometimes when you throw it, it doesn’t return to you. This usually happens if your turn gets interrupted somehow before the script completes the return function

Every time a battle is over make sure you still have it, it’s all you can do other than use warlock to bind it

You know how returning thrown weapons are supposed to always return to you when thrown? I've tried out many with this property (like Nyrulna) and others given this property (through Pact of the Blade or being a Bound weapon) and ... well, it still seems a bit buggy to me.

In short, not just that one, but pretty much every "returning" weapon ... doesn't always return. I usually just find them lying at the feet of corpses like every other thrown weapon, but in rare cases, they do just disappear. Thank the stars, Nyrulna has never done that.

In short, I've pretty much reduced my throwing arsenal to grenades. Now that's something you throw which you definitely DON'T want returning.

Just keep a bag with like 10 javelins in it in case you get stuck in a fight without it. They weigh a pound each

Personally, since the game ignores arrows and ammo unless they have special properties, I think "standard" things like normal javelins, handaxes, and throwing knives should be treated the same way. Just make them not vanish from your inventory when thrown.

I would love the game to have more throwing weapons. My shadow ninja monk wants shuriken. Where are the darts and slings? (That's rhetorical - if you read up on this, Larian wanted to include darts and slings, but they got dropped from release. BTW, there are firearms mods that add firearms like muskets to the game, but they're using the unused coded sling category.)

Fair enough for enchanted items to not return this way. Unless, again, they have the returning property. Or given it by magic. Some of them have "on hit" properties that only activate when thrown, like Nyrulna.

But to return to the thread topic's point, I agree it seems enchanted returning items are bugged and don't always act as described. My experience jibes with the OP. I love Nyrulna but it doesn't always return as described. Of course, it's plenty useful as a melee weapon without throwing it.

It fell under the map. A known issue with throwing things. If it is a returning weapon such as the pike, if you end your turn before the weapon actually returns to your weapon slot, it can fall through the map. Also, there can be instances where something interrupts the script and the item does not return to you. This happened to me with the Nyrula. I had to use script extender and cheat engine to re-spawn the item. If you go this route, remember delete the console command script from your file or it will open every time you load the game and slow it down or even cause a crash. Good luck to you mate.

This screwed me in act 2 on an honor mode playthrough. Returning pike is just gone. Pretty sure it fell through the map.

My tavern brawler monk was built around this. Now my monk has no weapon till act 3. I'm not sure if I should respect or just go nuclear Gale. TBH I'm pretty unhappy about it

Returning weapons do not return under the following conditions:
1. If you miss and it falls in an abyss
2. If you are not in combat when you throw the weapon (i.e. you are stealthed and throw the weapon as the opening move to combat). It does not matter if other characters are in combat, if the weapon thrower is not in combat when the weapon is initially thrown, the weapon will not usually return. It will occasionally return if the initiative role results in the player that threw the weapon as 'going next.'
3. I know I once believed there was a third condition that would result in a thrown weapon not returning but I've forgotten it. It was fairly situational and I've not encountered it for some time.

Eldritch Knights can throw their weapons. Warlocks cannot. Eldritch Knight's cannot drop their weapons yet despite the description on the Warlock pact blade, a warlock will drop a bound pact blade if disarmed or heat metal is cast on it. I really like this game. I appreciate the huge effort that must've gone into it. It drives me nuts the number of spells and spell like abilities (like warlock blade pact bound blades) that do not work the way the tool tips describe.
