Before I buy
As I contemplate purchasing a game currently on sale, I find myself grappling with a common dilemma: my uncertainty about whether I genuinely enjoy turn-based gameplay. While the discounted price is enticing, my hesitation stems from my unfamiliarity with this particular genre.

In light of this, I am curious to know if others have encountered a similar situation. Has anyone else, who typically does not favor turn-based games, found enjoyment in this particular title? Hearing from fellow gamers who share my initial reservations would greatly assist me in making an informed decision.

Thank you for your insights, and I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

If you did not enjoy Divinity Original Sin 2 it is unlikely you will enjoy this one.

I stopped playing Dragon Age: Origins, despite i like the story/chars/choices, because DA:O has a turn based combat system.

I am fine with Baldurs Gate 3, as i play a character talking his way out - most of the time. Had like 5-10 minutes of combat per hour played. With easy difficuty i just use standard attacks the characters has and get it over with quickly. I did do the level up of characters and add like 1-2 better armors i found, no more then that. I even considered the options interesting as i used them: e.g. once i did not kill an enemy NPC ranning away (didn´t want to kill her). When i realized she came back with reinforcements, i used "run" with each of my characters to get out of the building and the fight, that i most likly would have lost.
With that being descirpted i personal, am happy with the turn based combat, as i talk a lot with characters, having to figure out a puzzle now and then.

Choices / Dialogue options use a Dice that is rolled (Persuade, trick etc.). Not everyone likes it as i heard. I do like to have a likelyhood explained to me first and the thrill of defeat/success, when the dice rolls.

This here is misinformation, ladies and gents.
Dragon Age Origins is RtwP. Aka. Real-time with pause.
Not turn-based. :)

If you didn't like DoS 2 you will certainly not like this, because the writing is even worse. The gameplay is better though, because at least they removed the ''learn skills by buying books'' ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I didnt like DoS 2 at all and I dont like any of the Owlcat games but I liked the BG3 turn based mode just fine. It's only in a few rare fights with too many enemies where it gets old with the waiting. I was highly skeptical of the turn based mode but it was fine for me.

Unlike other turn based RPGs BG 3 turns are rather quick (unless you have +10 entities fighting) and you have many options from attacks to spells or interactions like shoving ppl or throwing stuff

I want to keep people updated. I’m in the beginning and I absolutely enjoy the game a lot! The turn base is NOT bad at all, it is very smooth. I’m sure there’s more to come!

You've already bought, you don't need my advice anymore

BG3 is a good game, but the story is mid-tier at best. The freedom the game gives you is good compared to there is only one path in most games. The romances in the game seem to be done by an overly active teenager.
