You would be a holy relic wouldn't you phalar.
So I find the sword phalar aluve which would be great for my character currently only its a sacrifice to a god by a warrior who has probably died and left this behind as a memorial going by the text on the blade. I can take it, I know how to take it but every time I used it I'd feel like I was using a mixture of someone's gravestone and a memorial gift to a god. Now that's fine it makes an immersive world I'm just hoping someone else on here felt the same and I'm not the only person who walked away and left it in the stone.

Such a blade was meant to be wielded. If you know the rites to pull the sword out and show respect, I'm sure the previous wielder and Eilistraee would approve.

Look at it this way: If you leave it in the Underdark, a Lolth-sworn might desecrate the site and the blade.

Agreeing with this take, if you got the sword without destroying the altar or something, you were meant to get it

I suppose I can see that approach given it rising up in the air and glowing . . . still feels a bit off to me.

You are not wrong and I definitely feel the same about the sword. However, we keep using weapons of killed enemies as well, loot tombs and graves, and so on... I think the ship which would worry about such has long sailed for me gamewise.

Not all of us, I left the haper cache, the selunite chest, kannon's grave, the dogs grave all untouched. Probably just me but taking a better sword off a defeated enemy just doesn't have the same "no" factor as a holy memorial or an actual grave. Heck I even left Lenore's diary, ring, ring and note from Yere in her basement even though I'm 90% sure she's dead. Not to mention feeling guilty over killing her pet Bullete.

At the end of the day, you play how you want to play. If you don't feel comfortable taking something, then don't take it.

I can understand leaving graves alone, and rings that were meant for someone else, but perhaps exceptions can be made for things like this sword. As I said earlier, you know the rites and you have respect for weapon, the previous wielder and the god it was placed there in the name of, that's much more that can be said by most that would come across the weapon.

A drow who took the time to carve a message on the blade saying though they have to leave (die?) they'll be dancing with Ellistrae. A faith that in the drow from what I understand was heavily used a spider food so I care. Whoever this was left the sword as a reminder to someone.

Drow aren't inherently evil, but those who follow Lolth are generally pretty evil, yes. Seldarine Drow - those who follow Elistraee, are more good aligned, or at least neutral.

Yep and this is from one of the Seldarine ones from the look of it.

They were a warrior dedicated to Eilistraee...

I feel you, though honoring it by spilling blood and then carrying on the legacy of it's previous owner would probably not be disapproved of, by either them, or Eilistraee
"Though I have to leave you, I will dance forever in Eilistraee's light."

Yep, as I said it feels like taking both a holy relic, a tribute to a goddess and someone's grave marker.
