Look at it this way: If you leave it in the Underdark, a Lolth-sworn might desecrate the site and the blade.
You are not wrong and I definitely feel the same about the sword. However, we keep using weapons of killed enemies as well, loot tombs and graves, and so on... I think the ship which would worry about such has long sailed for me gamewise.
Not all of us, I left the haper cache, the selunite chest, kannon's grave, the dogs grave all untouched. Probably just me but taking a better sword off a defeated enemy just doesn't have the same "no" factor as a holy memorial or an actual grave. Heck I even left Lenore's diary, ring, ring and note from Yere in her basement even though I'm 90% sure she's dead. Not to mention feeling guilty over killing her pet Bullete.
At the end of the day, you play how you want to play. If you don't feel comfortable taking something, then don't take it.
I can understand leaving graves alone, and rings that were meant for someone else, but perhaps exceptions can be made for things like this sword. As I said earlier, you know the rites and you have respect for weapon, the previous wielder and the god it was placed there in the name of, that's much more that can be said by most that would come across the weapon.
A drow who took the time to carve a message on the blade saying though they have to leave (die?) they'll be dancing with Ellistrae. A faith that in the drow from what I understand was heavily used a spider food so I care. Whoever this was left the sword as a reminder to someone.
Aren’t drow canonically evil for the most part? ♥♥♥♥ him, my loot now
Drow aren't inherently evil, but those who follow Lolth are generally pretty evil, yes. Seldarine Drow - those who follow Elistraee, are more good aligned, or at least neutral.
Yep and this is from one of the Seldarine ones from the look of it.
Yep, as I said it feels like taking both a holy relic, a tribute to a goddess and someone's grave marker.
