What does 1d10 mean?
Does this mean you get one roll attempt and you must roll a 10 or higher in order to pass the check?

'1 die (dice) with 6 sides' (1d6)
'1 die (dice) with 20 sides' (1d20).

The first number is always how many you must roll, and the second number is always what number of sides the dice you are rolling must be. There are also little bonuses you can see in the equation IE: 1d8+3. Which means roll 1 die with 8 sides and then add 3 to the rolled number.

1d10 means you roll a 10-sided die. The results will be from 10% to 100%.

However, all skill checks are 1d20.

1d10 is one 10-sided die, so a roll of 1 to 10. A roll DC (Difficulty Class) of 10 is what you're thinking of.

1 to 10 isn't 10% to 100% tho and you know it

as others said, its simply a single 10 sided die

you commonly play most board games with d6's, monopoly for example, this is just a larger form.

You are confusing this with a "DC"

Not only do I explain the 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d8 etc. but also other stuff which are related to that.

The 10 or higher can be understand as the Armour Class or Difficulty Check which often appear, as it is often used as a default number. Feel free to ask more if you are unsure.
