Steam or GOG?
The basic differences are obvious - GOG has DRM free, a relationship with Project Red, is sort of a 'nice gamer company', Steam is convenient where we have most games.

Sometimes I'll pick up a game on GOG to 'support them', despite it being a little less convenient, even though they try to help that with 'Galaxy'.

More just curious if someone has other factors to push toward one or the other, as I pick where to buy it and it's a close call.

The Steam version has Steamworks multiplayer integration, which makes connecting to friends a bit easier. GoG players have to use the old "pass the lobby code" around strategy, to my knowledge.

If you're wanting to "stretch one copy between friends" it's probably a bit easier with GoG, although possible with the Steam version too as long as you don't have Steam running in the background. BG3 doesn't auto-launch Steam when run like a lot of Steam games, so it's "DRM-free" on Steam as well.

The Steam version can also Remote Play Together (only if you download RemotePlayWhatever, however, since the devs never enabled it legitimately).

And, lastly, GoG's refund policy is better, obviously. That's about everything I can think of.

Tbh I just pick something from gog if it's not available on steam. But I do admit sometimes in the back of my mind there is a little voice that says "what if one day steam goes down"....

Thanks, Razorblade. That has a little weight for my playing as there's a little chance I'll play with someone, but it's likely single player so probably not too much a concern.

In the specific case of Baldur's Gate 3 Steam is in advantage. GOG.com was failing often with their offline installers for the game. What speaks for GOG.com is the more customer friendly refund policy. As things are I recommend buying the game on Steam.

The winning argument: GOG.com has DRM free. But Baldur's Gate 3 is on Steam DRM free as well.

My friend, please, make your own decisions... I don't understand why you need the opinion of random people on the internet about which platforms you should spend your money. You already know the pros and cons of both platforms, choose the one you want the most and be happy!

On a side note: I own the game on Steam and GOG.com. So if you have specific questions, go ahead. I assure you I can tell you from first hand experiences.

Both have advantages and disadvantages. I prefer Steam but do have a number of games on GoG.

Updating is easier on Steam. But depending on what your plan is, GoG may be better.

The physical version is described as "DVD with custom BG3 installer + Steam serial key, internet required."

Translation: "It's the Steam version, burned to a disc, and requires Steam to run."

It's there to be a collector's item; there is seemingly no practical difference between it and the Steam version.

Thanks, but the question is in the OP. Just looking for something to push one or the other as a better option. I assume there is cross-play between them?

That would be a small factor (10% off), but both have the same sale. So seeing about other things as noted.
