I also like to finish inside first
Or fireball my way out...
or both...
Good times!
It's pretty messy.
I see. That's very useful to know - thanks!
What is the benefit of cleaning inside first?
My question was BG3-related - not something else! ;)
I do know that if you skip all of that, never meet them, and just mosey your way into Act 2 via the mountain pass, those Goblins you never meet consider you as a friend in Act 2 as if you met them in Act 1.
After I talk to whomever I can or need to, I'll usually sweep the fringes (outside, then inside) with stealth k!lls or small groups at a time, destroy most of the war drums and trade for/loot/steal whatever I can. If you can keep the fights far enough from view, no one seems to care. It's easy to check by having the party go into stealth. This is how I take the Creche, too.
Outside:
My personal strat is to walk straight into camp from the Blighted Village. The fight at the gate only aggros the immediate vicinity, so I take them out. Next area: the three goblins guarding/drinking in front of the trapped access to the Mountain Pass. One carefully placed barrel of firewine and patient timing=done in one. Stealth k!ll the goblin peeing over the ledge/behind the kids, or push him off the cliff if you don't care to loot him. I talk the kids into leaving first--I'm not a monster! Lol! Then the goblin reading books in the watchtower (stealth), then the group of passed-out goblins and bugbears. I save the poisoned beer barrel for the coup de grace then fight whoever's left outside.
Inside:
This same strategy goes for the two goblin groups outside of Dror's area, near the goblin in the hanging cage. Barrelmancy for the group farther in, then stealth kill one of the members of the group by the cage (aggros the other other two, obv, but the fight stays local). Oddly enough, goblins don't seem to hear the explosion in the next room (??). Then off the goblin in the room with Volo. Free him, go next door to do the Loviatar ritual, then free the tortured guy by taking out the goblins there (stealth is helpful here if you don't care about goblin dialogue).
I take out Gut in her private chamber, then knock out Minty and end her group. Go next door and take out the group guarding the door to the worg pens/Halsin. Free Halsin. If I feel like I've taken out enough gobbos, I'll let Halsin join for the Dror fight, though it takes some planning to place everyone with him charging in like, well, a bear. Seconding what others have said, The whole camp aggros when Dror is taken out, so I save him for last.
Happy hunting!
Just seems pointless to me, because there's no need to go in swinging. Once you're passed the first checkpoint on top of the hill, you can just walk right into the goblin's courtyard party without any fuss. Play some chicken chase to make some gold, buy and sell from the merchant, get dialogue from the goblins there.
Lots of stuff to do if you play it cool.
