Which class and race for the first time?
At first I wanted to create a fighter or Babarian but I saw that 2 companions are fighter and Babarian. Then I thought about creating a wizard and I saw there is a wizard as a companion…. What should I do? When I choose fighter we have 2 fighters in the party and when I choose wizard it’s the same…. Go for a different char? Does it matter if I have 2 of the same kind in the party?

Choose whatever you want, you don't need to take the origin characters with you that have the same class. And if you go for evil you lose the barbarian and warlock either way.
For the first run I had gone with paladin, now I run it with a monk.

You can respec them if they have the same class as you.

Bard is a nice pick for a first time player. No other Bard companions, gives bonuses to skill checks you are not proficient in, get's expertise for skills, and quite a few Bard unique dialogue. I'm happy I chose Bard for my first time

First off, it doesn’t matter much if you double up, especially not with martial classes. There are loads of armours and weapons so you can build your fighter quite different from Lae’zel.

I find with these games that I tend to play for a while and get a feel for that different classes and companions, and decide from there what party I want to use and which companions I want to bring with me.

The starting companions aren’t the only ones you get, you get a Druid who joins you as a party member during act 2 and another later on as well.

Some players also rotate companions, since by default XP is applied to all of them, regardless of whether they’re in your party.
So if you have Lae’zel to begin with and then find you don’t like her, you can swap her out for someone else without much issue

Gnome barbarian. With wild magic. Name him Gnonan.

It does not matter. If you have to ask I recommend Bard, Paladin or Sorcerer.

Oh, right, race.

Gith are pretty good as a race to play.

You get a bunch of weapon proficiencies as well as Mage Hand and an enhanced jump ability…

And you get a brilliant ability to pick an Attribute and get proficiency in all its associated skills until your next long rest. That’s just excellent.

Bard of Paladin because the charisma focus makes your character a great face to the party. Race matters very little on this, shorter races have reduced movement. Drow have a lot of unique dialogue interactions so that could be cool.

I'm playing Human for the first time in my 5th playthrough. I miss innate darkvision. Them Humans. I swear. Useless in D&D. :steamhappy:

(There's a group I watch in the UK where they homebrewed that only Humans do not have darkvision and everyone else does. One of the players has a Human character. "Everyone except the Rogue see..." That's not 5e RaW, though. Just a funny running gag.)
