I wish I saw this kind of post a few months back when I started a 2nd, total evil play through as Dark Urge from the very beginning of the game. The Dark Urge "committed to being evil" endings stink.
Seems that given how the decision branches in this game are designed, it doesn't matter if you play good or evil all through Act 1 and 2, and through Act 3 up until the point where you have to make a decision about whether or not to side with Bhaal. . I would have saved time by not doing a 2nd play through at all, reload an earlier save from my first play through, and having my "good" played Dark Urge (from my original play through) just make the "evil" choice at that one pivotal moment to see the two weaker endings. That would have saved me 80 hours or so.
The only highlight of doing a 2nd play through was I got to experience Act 1 much differently, and picked up Minthara as a girlfriend. The Act I experience was unique enough to be cool, but you can tell Minthara is a VERY underdeveloped character compared to the other characters, which is a shame because she begins as a pretty interesting one, and a great complement to the DU. She was pretty cool for a while, but about halfway into Act 3, her dialogue dries up as far as side banter.
Given the implications of going all the way through with the seizing control of the Netherbrain to eradicate the world, , you'd think Larian could have added a few more minutes of cut scenes and dialogue to elaborate on this outcome given all the other content they added to the game that most players will never see. Instead, it is a weak, very short cut scene, that leaves the rest to imagination. Either their heart just wasn't into evil endings, or they ran out of time (that wouldn't surprise me a bit given the state of Act 3).
Staying evil, but then not seizing control of the brain is even worse, because it cuts you out of the epilogue options. So all the other character development done throughout the game is totally trashed. There is no way to converse with your companions at the camp, and no alternative to it, since you become a raving pyscho with no way out. Taking this route, one of the end dialogue options after getting to the end alludes to challenging Bhaal . It would have been nice if that was a way out so that the epilogue could be enjoyed, but nope.
