While normally yes, I tried talking out and fighting out on two different playthroughs for this particular fight though and the difference is 200exp for talking or like 1400exp for fighting.
Either Larian didn't remember to put a 1 infront of that 200exp by accident, it's bugged or Larian wants you to fight there.
I think they just have the wrong value of EXP tbh, because talking Yugir to death is like 4-ish Dice Check Rolls to accomplish. Should be way more than 200.
Definitely sounds like it bugged. It's been a hot minute but I remember netting quite a bit more than 200 exp. It might also grant it stages as you talk through getting rid of all of his followers in which case overall you got more but you see it in small stages as opposed to all at once. I'm tempted to see if I have any saves near there and test it.
I don't think it was in stages because I checked the combat log and compared the exp after and I only ever received 200 for it.. I remember distinctly being disappointed when figuring out how much less it gave me after reloading and comparing both.
EDIT: It is possible it bugged out on me, I think I was on patch 2 or 3 at that point.
I don't remember the exact dialogue, but I'm sure it is out there on the wiki, the Cliff's Notes:
Get him to tell you about the deal he made. Bard/Warlock gets a roll-free choice here, I believe. Agree to help him find a way out. After that, everyone will just sort of hang out and you can talk to all the little minions and stuff (one of them is a vendor). Not sure how much you want spoiled for what to do next, but there's some stuff to explore below where Yugir is hanging out.
There are a number of ways to not fight him through dialogue but I am pretty sure most (if not all) need you to get him to tell you about the contract. I don't currently have a file close enough to this encounter at the moment to run through the conversation choices though or I would try to give you a little more to go on. Sorry. (If I turn something more specific I can come back and post again)
As for experience, the amount may very depending on how you go about things. Working with him can go a few different ways. Helping him might involve some other fights. You could talk him down only to back stab him later (basically doing the fight anyway but less ambush on you).
One of the non combat ways I took, got rid of all the enemies and I remember getting decent experience for it but it's been a moment and another player seems to remember being VERY underwhelmed by the exp they got doing the same thing. I could be wrong or their encounter was bugged. But USUALLY exp works out in encounters where their could have been a big fight but wasn't.
I never even took notice of the XP for doing it both ways (fight or off himself). It's his hand crossbow I want more than anything. I've never helped him before, I'm guessing you won't get his loot and I always use that crossbow.
Then it's bugged since release. Fighting him and his minions always nets more xp.
