Anyone else shocked BG3 is not a true action RPG?
I followed this game way back from the start, I still cannot believe that it's turned based. I really like BG3, but I can't stop thinking how it would have turned out if Larian listened to our early petitions.

Anyone else hoping that someone would make a true sequel to baldrics gate and make it real time combat?

Trash mobs in RTWP to Turn Based is exactly the problem. Think about it using more than two brain cells and it'll be obvious why.

You cannot effectively design a game to include both without one of the two suffering because of it.
Man I love spending an entire round resolving something that takes seconds in RTwP because the game is designed for RTwP
Likewise TB encounter design would be unplayable in RTwP because encounters meant to be challenging in TB will just smoke you in RTwP.
Yeah, just picture having even 2 caster mobs chain casting Fireball or multi-target crowd control, or every Goblin in Act 1 of BG3 throwing bombs/explosive arrows second one of a fight.

Compare that to a lot of RtwP enemies that basically have only one behavior, run up and attack until target dies.

Probably not considering their past releases.

Imagine auntie ethel, spawning clones then instantly obliterating your party with the ray of sickness firing squad

I'm very happy it released the way it did, a turn-based combat system. Its one of the reasons I love their other games so much too.

Ugh, forgot about that one.

I usually just use a volley or two of Magic Missile to clean out the clones ASAP to avoid that outcome.

Because more is going on at any given time in RTwP? People tried modding RTwP into D:OS2, and it failed. Wanna know why? For one, they'd need to rebuild the entire game from scratch to make it work, because the encounter design and enemy AI just didn't work for it and they'd get smoked by AI ment for TB instantly, and that was just too much effort considering the tiny number of people that were actually interested.

You can't have RTwP with verticality because more is going on at any given time? Ok boss.

You know what the P in RTwP stands for right?

You can and Pathfinder did it.

You know how they did it? Customizable dmg values and very specific sliders & options for gameplay.

Again feels like you don't have much experience with RTwP games or RPGs and are just talkin out of your asses to defend BG3.

You don't have to do this it's ok, Larian is not paying you.

Examples of Action RPGs would be like Dragon Age or The Witcher. And no, that gameplay style would not improve Baldur's Gate.

The real time default combat was what was wrong with BG2; it was fixed by an optional turn-based mode which everyone used.

Why in the world would we want to go back to a system that just didn't work?
why would you be shocked that it's not an ARPG ? lol if you are a larian studios fan you knew what you were getting lmfao

Real time combat would take this from a 9.5/10 to an 7-8/10 real fast.

"Baldric's Gate" - Does this involve turnip-based combat?

(Solely for any and all Blackadder fans out there)

But I can't make a very small casserole!

The thing about turn based combat is, AI can not adapt to human influence. So, you will always have the advantage unless you have an evolving AI that learns your patterns and adapts. However, the spirit of D&D, which is what it is based off of, is turn based at it's core.
Did it ever claim to be an action rpg?
